Discovery of an Antarctic ascidian-associated uncultivated Verrucomicrobia that encodes antimelanoma palmerolide biosynthetic capacity
Alison E. Murray,Chien-Chi Lo,Hajnalka E. Daligault,Nicole E. Avalon,Robert W Read,Karen W. Davenport,Mary L Higham,Yuliya A. Kunde,Dichosa Ae,Bill J. Baker,Patrick S. G. Chain +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a metagenome-enabled investigation aimed at identifying the biosynthetic gene cluster (BGC) and palmerolide A-producing organism was described, and a 74kb candidate BGC encoding the multimodular enzymatic machinery (hybrid Type I-trans-AT polyketide synthase-non-ribosomal peptide synthetase and tailoring functional domains) was identified and found to harbor key features predicted as necessary for palmeride A biosynthesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
In vivo cloning strategy for Rhizobium plasmids.
Ismael Hernández-Lucas,Patrick Mavingui,Patrick Mavingui,Turlough M. Finan,Patrick S. G. Chain,Esperanza Martínez-Romero +5 more
TL;DR: A mating-based system was successfully used to clone plasmids of Rhizobium species with sizes ranging from 150 to 270 kb, and a 500-kb fragment of a 600-kb megaplasmid was also cloned.
Journal ArticleDOI
Complete Genome Assembly of Streptococcus pyogenes ATCC 19615, a Group A β-Hemolytic Reference Strain
T. D. Minogue,H. A. Daligault,Karen W. Davenport,Kimberly A. Bishop-Lilly,S. M. Broomall,D. C. Bruce,Patrick S. G. Chain,Olga Chertkov,Susan R. Coyne,T. Freitas,Kenneth G. Frey,Henry S. Gibbons,J. Jaissle,C. L. Redden,C. N. Rosenzweig,Yan Xu,Shannon L. Johnson +16 more
TL;DR: The complete genome assembly of Streptococcus pyogenes ATCC 19615 (Rosenbach) as submitted to GenBank under accession number CP008926 is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Erratum to: Complete genome sequence of Pirellula staleyi type strain (ATCC 27377 T )

Kyrpides,Hans-Peter Klenk,Alla Lapidus +50 more
TL;DR: The paper showed a rod-shaped cell, which is not the correct morphology for this species, and the mature cell shape has previously been described as teardrop- to pear-shaped, with the attachment pole slightly pointed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Challenges in Bioinformatics Workflows for Processing Microbiome Omics Data at Scale
Bin Hu,Shane Canon,Emiley A. Eloe-Fadrosh,Fnu Anubhav,Michal Babinski,Yuri E. Corilo,Karen W. Davenport,William D. Duncan,Kjiersten Fagnan,Mark C. Flynn,Brian L. Purvine,Montana Smith,Neha Varghese,Donald Winston,Yan Xu,Patrick S. G. Chain +27 more
TL;DR: Some of the challenges that exist in analyzing omics data within the microbiome research sphere are reviewed, and context on how the National Microbiome Data Collaborative has adopted a standardized and open access approach is provided.
