Selenite induces redox-dependent Bax activation and apoptosis in colorectal cancer cells.
Fang Huang,Chunlai Nie,Chunlai Nie,Yang Yang,Wen Yue,Wen Yue,Yun Ren,Yingli Shang,Yingli Shang,Xiaohui Wang,Xiaohui Wang,Haijing Jin,Haijing Jin,Caimin Xu,Quan Chen,Quan Chen +15 more
TL;DR: It is shown for the first time that selenite can activate the apoptotic machinery through redox-dependent activation of Bax and further suggest that seenite could be useful in cancer therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mangrove succession enriches the sediment microbial community in South China
TL;DR: Regression and ordination analyses indicated that the changes in the microbial community with mangrove succession were mainly associated with properties of the aboveground vegetation and the sediment and can probably be explained by increases in nutrients and microhabitat heterogeneity during mangroves succession.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ionizing radiation stimulates mitochondrial gene expression and activity.
TL;DR: Results indicate that the increase in mitochondrial gene expression is mediated by oxidative stress, and the specificity of changes in mitochondrial activity and gene expression after irradiation is demonstrated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatial and temporal effects of nitrogen addition on root life span of Leymus chinensis in a typical steppe of Inner Mongolia
TL;DR: The differential sensitivity of survivorship and longevity of L. chinensis roots occurred in different soil depths and born in different seasons to N addition highlights the importance of spatial and temporal characteristics of roots in response to soil N availability in Inner Mongolia steppe.
Journal ArticleDOI
Appoptosin is a Novel Pro-Apoptotic Protein and Mediates Cell Death in Neurodegeneration
Han Zhang,Yun-wu Zhang,Yun-wu Zhang,Yaomin Chen,Xiumei Huang,Xiumei Huang,Fangfang Zhou,Weiwei Wang,Bo Xian,Xian Zhang,Eliezer Masliah,Quan Chen,Jing-Dong J. Han,Guojun Bu,John C. Reed,Francesca Fang Liao,Francesca Fang Liao,Ye-Guang Chen,Huaxi Xu,Huaxi Xu +19 more
TL;DR: This study identifies appoptosin as a crucial player in apoptosis and a novel pro-apoptotic protein involved in neuronal cell death, providing a possible new therapeutic target for neurodegenerative disorders.
