Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of organic and inorganic nitrate on aortic and carotid haemodynamics in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.
Julio A. Chirinos,Francisco Londono-Hoyos,Francisco Londono-Hoyos,Payman Zamani,Melissa Beraun,Philip Haines,Izzah Vasim,Izzah Vasim,Swapna Varakantam,Swapna Varakantam,Timothy S Phan,Thomas P. Cappola,Kenneth B. Margulies,Raymond R. Townsend,Patrick Segers +14 more
TL;DR: To assess the haemodynamic effects of organic vs. inorganic nitrate administration among patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, a large number of patients were diagnosed with HFpEF.
Journal ArticleDOI
Role of mitochondria-derived reactive oxygen species in microvascular dysfunction in chronic kidney disease
TL;DR: In vivo evidence that mitochondria-derived reactive oxygen species contribute to microvascular dysfunction in CKD is provided and mitochondrial dysfunction may be a potential therapeutic target to improve CKD-related vascular dysfunction is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI
An analysis of the blood pressure and safety outcomes to renal denervation in African Americans and Non-African Americans in the SYMPLICITY HTN-3 trial.
John M. Flack,Deepak L. Bhatt,David E. Kandzari,David L. Brown,Sandeep Brar,James W. Choi,Ralph B. D'Agostino,Cara East,Barry T. Katzen,Lilian Lee,Martin B. Leon,Laura Mauri,William W. O'Neill,Suzanne Oparil,Krishna J. Rocha-Singh,Raymond R. Townsend,George L. Bakris +16 more
TL;DR: There appears to be effect modification by race with individual-level patient characteristics in both treatment arms that affect the observed pattern of SBP responses.
Journal ArticleDOI
Proteomic comparison of Entamoeba histolytica and Entamoeba dispar and the role of E. histolytica alcohol dehydrogenase 3 in virulence.
Paul H. Davis,Minghe Chen,Xiaochun Zhang,C. Graham Clark,Raymond R. Townsend,Samuel L. Stanley +5 more
TL;DR: It is found that E. histolytica possesses a higher level of NADP-dependent alcohol dehydrogenase activity than E. dispar and that some EhADH3 can be localized to the surface of E. historicica trophozoites, which may account for their differential ability to cause disease in humans.
Journal ArticleDOI
Management of Stage 1 Hypertension in Adults With a Low 10-Year Risk for Cardiovascular Disease: Filling a Guidance Gap: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association.
Daniel W. Jones,Paul K. Whelton,Norrina B. Allen,Donald Clark,Samuel S. Gidding,Paul Muntner,Shawna D. Nesbitt,Nia S. Mitchell,Raymond R. Townsend,Bonita Falkner,Vascular Biology +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present evidence that high blood pressure (BP) is the leading cause of worldwide cardiovascular disease morbidity and mortality, and patients and clinicians dealing with hypertension have benefited from the evidence of even...
