Journal ArticleDOI
Many paths to methyltransfer: a chronicle of convergence
TL;DR: The structural and catalytic requirements for methyltransfer from AdoMet appear to be remarkably flexible.
Journal ArticleDOI
A nomenclature for restriction enzymes, DNA methyltransferases, homing endonucleases and their genes

Stein,Barry L. Stoddard,Waclaw Szybalski,Thomas A. Trautner,James L. Van Etten,Jorge M. B. Vítor,Geoffrey G. Wilson,Shuang Yong Xu +46 more
TL;DR: In this article, a nomenclature for restriction endonucleases, DNA methyltransferases, homing endon nucleases and related genes and gene products is described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantitation of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 infection kinetics.
TL;DR: Of particular note was the finding that the infectivity of HIV-1 during cell-to-cell transmission is 10(2) to 10(3) times greater than the infectability of cell-free virus stocks, the inocula commonly used to initiate tissue culture infections.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structure-guided analysis reveals nine sequence motifs conserved among DNA amino-methyltransferases, and suggests a catalytic mechanism for these enzymes
TL;DR: A multiple sequence alignment of 42 amino-Mtases revealed nine conserved motifs, corresponding to the motifs I to VIII and X previously defined in C5-cytosine Mtases, which appear to be more closely related than has been appreciated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sensitivity of HIV-1 to entry inhibitors correlates with envelope/coreceptor affinity, receptor density, and fusion kinetics
Jacqueline D. Reeves,Stephen A. Gallo,Navid Ahmad,John L. Miamidian,Phoebe E. Harvey,Matthew Sharron,Stefan Pöhlmann,Jeffrey N. Sfakianos,Cynthia A. Derdeyn,Robert Blumenthal,Eric Hunter,Robert W. Doms +11 more
TL;DR: Mutations in Env that affect receptor engagement and membrane fusion rates can alter entry inhibitor sensitivity, and individuals who express lower coreceptor levels may respond more favorably to entry inhibitors such as T-20, whose effectiveness depends in part on fusion kinetics.
