Journal ArticleDOI
Acute calcium entry blockade inhibits the blood pressure but not the hormonal responses to angiotensin II.
TL;DR: In conclusion, acute calcium entry blockade in patients with essential hypertension reduces the pressor response to A II, but not the A II-induced inhibition of renin and increase in plasma aldosterone.
Journal ArticleDOI
The burden of cardiovascular risk factors among the inhabitants of an urban congolese community: results of the vitaraa study: pp.7.291
JR MʼBuyamba-Kabangu,D. Lemogoum,P Bayauli,JR MʼBuyamba-Kayamba,Jan A. Staessen,Robert Fagard,JP Degaute +6 more
TL;DR: The burden of uncontrolled risk factors in urban Africans emphasizes that control and prevention of cardiovascular disease should deserve more attention on the political agenda in sub-Saharan Africa.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanism of hypotensive action of ketanserin in men
TL;DR: This test could be used as a tool to measure the degree of serotonin inhibition, at least at the platelet level, provided that the pH is controlled in the in vitro assay.
Journal ArticleDOI
Response to HYVET Ambulatory Blood Pressure Substudy
Christopher J. Bulpitt,Nigel Beckett,Ruth Peters,Jan A. Staessen,Ji-Guang Wang,Marius Comsa,Robert Fagard,D Dumitrascu,V. Gergova,Riitta Antikainen,Elizabeth Cheek,Chakravarthi Rajkumar +11 more
TL;DR: The Bursztyn et al1 speculate that ambulatory blood pressure participants were not representative of the whole trial, but this is possible but very unlikely in view of the similarity of the participant characteristics given in Table 1.
Journal ArticleDOI
Radioimmunoassay of angiotensin i in human plasma ‐ comparison of two renin activity methods
TL;DR: Plasma renin activity (PRA) was measured by radioimmunoassay of angiotensin I generated during 1 hour incubation at the pH-optimum and in the plasma or after extraction on a Dowex resin with significant correlation between the PRA-values obtained with both methods.
