The synergistic effect of combining woodlands and green veining for biodiversity
C.J. Grashof-Bokdam,J. Paul Chardon,Claire C. Vos,Ruud P. B. Foppen,Michiel F. WallisDeVries,Marja van der Veen,H.A.M. Meeuwsen +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the relationship between the occurrence of 40 forest plant and animal species in 1,000 km grid cells in the Netherlands and the spatial cohesion of the surrounding large woodlands and small woody elements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Overcoming the challenges of public data archiving for citizen science biodiversity recording and monitoring schemes
James W. Pearce-Higgins,Stephen R. Baillie,Katherine L. Boughey,Nigel A. D. Bourn,Ruud P. B. Foppen,Simon Gillings,Richard D. Gregory,Richard D. Gregory,Tom Hunt,Frédéric Jiguet,Aleksi Lehikoinen,Andy J. Musgrove,Robert A. Robinson,David B. Roy,Gavin M. Siriwardena,Kevin J. Walker,Jeremy D. Wilson +16 more
TL;DR: In this article, the challenges of public data archiving for large-scale citizen science biodiversity recording and monitoring schemes are discussed. But the authors do not consider the impact on the participation of some volunteers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Large‐scale climatic drivers of regional winter bird population trends
Aleksi Lehikoinen,Ruud P. B. Foppen,Henning Heldbjerg,Åke Lindström,Willem van Manen,Sirke Piirainen,Chris A. M. van Turnhout,Stuart H. M. Butchart,Stuart H. M. Butchart +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the role of climate change and habitat preference in terrestrial winter bird population changes in Northern Europe was explored and the authors reported national population trends for 50 species for which a trend could be calculated in at least three of the countries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term and large-scale multispecies dataset tracking population changes of common European breeding birds
Vojtěch Brlík,Vojtěch Brlík,Eva Šilarová,Jana Škorpilová,Hany Alonso,Marc Anton,Ainars Aunins,Zoltan Benko,Gilles Biver,Malte Busch,Tomasz Chodkiewicz,Przemysław Chylarecki,Dick Coombes,Elisabetta de Carli,Juan C. del Moral,Antoine Derouaux,Virginia Escandell,Daniel P. M. van Turnhout,Glenn Vermeersch,Zdeněk Vermouzek,Thomas Vikstrøm,Petr Voříšek,Anne Weiserbs,Alena Klvaňová +68 more
TL;DR: The Pan-European Common Bird Monitoring Scheme (PCMBS) as discussed by the authors is a large scale database of 170 species of birds collected by around fifteen thousand fieldworkers annually counting breeding birds using standardized protocols in 28 European countries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of road traffic on the breeding site-tenacity of male Willow Warblers (Phylloscopus trochilus)
Rien Reijnen,Ruud P. B. Foppen +1 more
TL;DR: The breeding site-tenacity of colour-ringed male Willow Warblers was studied in an homogenous area of 154 ha, which is crossed by a heavily travelled road and indicates that adjacent to the road the habitat is less favourable for the Willow Warbler and can be considered as marginal.
