Circulating microRNAs in sera correlate with soluble biomarkers of immune activation but do not predict mortality in ART treated individuals with HIV-1 infection : a case control study

Daniel D Murray, +1489 more
- 14 Oct 2015 -
TL;DR: No associations with mortality were found with any circulating miRNAs studied and these results cast doubt onto the effectiveness of circulating miRNA as early predictors of mortality or the major underlying diseases that contribute to mortality in participants treated for HIV-1 infection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Early Impairment of Gut Function and Gut Flora Supporting a Role for Alteration of Gastrointestinal Mucosa in Human Immunodeficiency Virus Pathogenesis

TL;DR: Results show that impairment of the gastrointestinal tracts in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive patients is present in the early phases of HIV disease, and this impairment is associated with alterations in gut microbiota and intestinal inflammatory parameters.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cytomegalovirus Coinfection Is Associated With an Increased Risk of Severe Non–AIDS-Defining Events in a Large Cohort of HIV-Infected Patients

Miriam Lichtner, +133 more
TL;DR: In the study population, CMV/HIV coinfection was associated with the risk of severe non-AIDS-defining events/non- AIDS-related death, especially with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events, independently of other prognostic factors.
