Retinal isomerization in bacteriorhodopsin captured by a femtosecond x-ray laser
Przemyslaw Nogly,Tobias Weinert,Daniel James,Sergio Carbajo,Dmitry Ozerov,Antonia Furrer,Dardan Gashi,Veniamin Borin,Petr Skopintsev,Kathrin Jaeger,Karol Nass,Petra Båth,Robert Bosman,Jason E. Koglin,Matthew Seaberg,Thomas J. Lane,Demet Kekilli,Steffen Brünle,Tomoyuki Tanaka,Wenting Wu,Christopher J. Milne,Thomas P. White,Anton Barty,Uwe Weierstall,Valerie Panneels,Eriko Nango,So Iwata,Mark S. Hunter,Igor Schapiro,Gebhard F. X. Schertler,Gebhard F. X. Schertler,Richard Neutze,Jörg Standfuss +32 more
TL;DR: The principal mechanism of isomerization in this prototypical retinal-binding protein has direct relevance for all other members of this important family of membrane proteins, and it provides insight into how protein environments catalyze photochemical reactions in general.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modern quantum chemistry with [Open]Molcas
Francesco Aquilante,Jochen Autschbach,Alberto Baiardi,Stefano Battaglia,Veniamin Borin,Liviu F. Chibotaru,Irene Conti,Luca De Vico,Mickaël G. Delcey,Ignacio Fernández Galván,Nicolas Ferré,Leon Freitag,Marco Garavelli,Xuejun Gong,Stefan Knecht,Ernst D. Larsson,Roland Lindh,Marcus Lundberg,Per-Åke Malmqvist,Artur Nenov,Jesper Norell,Michael Odelius,Massimo Olivucci,Thomas Bondo Pedersen,Laura Pedraza-González,Quan Manh Phung,Kristine Pierloot,Markus Reiher,Igor Schapiro,Javier Segarra-Martí,Francesco Segatta,Luis Seijo,Saumik Sen,Dumitru-Claudiu Sergentu,Christopher J. Stein,Liviu Ungur,Morgane Vacher,Alessio Valentini,Valera Veryazov +38 more
TL;DR: This article provides a comprehensive overview of the main features of the MOLCAS/OpenMolcas code, specifically reviewing the use of the code in previously reported chemical applications as well as more recent applications including the calculation of magnetic properties from optimized density matrix renormalization group wave functions.
Journal ArticleDOI
NeoR, a near-infrared absorbing rhodopsin
Matthias Broser,Anika Spreen,Patrick E. Konold,Enrico Peter,Suliman Adam,Veniamin Borin,Igor Schapiro,Reinhard Seifert,John T. M. Kennis,Yinth Andrea Bernal Sierra,Peter Hegemann +10 more
TL;DR: Site-specific mutagenesis and hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics simulations support the idea that the unusual photochemical properties result from the rigidity of the retinal chromophore and a unique counterion triad composed of two glutamic and one aspartic acids.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ir(III)-PC(sp3)P Bifunctional Catalysts for Production of H2 by Dehydrogenation of Formic Acid: Experimental and Theoretical Study
Shirel Cohen,Veniamin Borin,Igor Schapiro,Sanaa Musa,Sophie De-Botton,Natalia V. Belkova,Dmitri Gelman +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the results of an investigation on a series of bifunctionl Ru(III)-PC(sp3)P complexes equipped with different outer-sphere auxiliaries, that allowed the authors to identify an amine-functionalized Ir(III) PC(sp 3)P complex 3, as a clean and efficient catalyst for the FA dehydrogenation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Roaming-mediated ultrafast isomerization of geminal tri-bromides in the gas and liquid phases
TL;DR: In this article, the roaming mechanism in gas-phase chemical transformations has been shown to occur in solution following ultraviolet excitation of geminal tribromides and isomerization occurring through the roaming of molecular fragments.
