WNT7A and PAX6 define corneal epithelium homeostasis and pathogenesis
Hong Ouyang,Yuanchao Xue,Ying Lin,Xiaohui Zhang,Lei Xi,Sherrina Patel,Huimin Cai,Jing Luo,Meixia Zhang,Ming Zhang,Yang Yang,Gen Li,Hairi Li,Wei Jiang,Emily Yeh,Jonathan H. Lin,Michelle Pei,Jin Zhu,Guiqun Cao,Liangfang Zhang,Benjamin D. Yu,Shaochen Chen,Xiang-Dong Fu,Yizhi Liu,Kang Zhang +24 more
TL;DR: Establishment of an in vitro feeder-cell-free LSC expansion and three-dimensional corneal differentiation protocol in which the transcription factors p63 and PAX6 act together to specify LSCs is found, suggesting a central role of the WNT7A–PAX6 axis in corNEal epithelial cell fate determination, and point to a new strategy for treating corneAL surface diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
JNK inhibition reduces apoptosis and neovascularization in a murine model of age-related macular degeneration
Hongjun Du,Xufang Sun,Xufang Sun,Monica Guma,Jing Luo,Hong Ouyang,Xiaohui Zhang,Xiaohui Zhang,Jing Zeng,John Quach,Duy H. Nguyen,Peter X. Shaw,Michael Karin,Kang Zhang,Kang Zhang,Kang Zhang +15 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that JNK1 plays a key role in linking oxidative stress, inflammation, macrophage recruitment apoptosis, and VEGF production in wet AMD and pharmacological JNK inhibition offers a unique and alternative avenue for prevention and treatment of AMD.
Journal ArticleDOI
TCF7L2 Variation and Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy
Jing Luo,Ling Zhao,Ling Zhao,Aaron Yun Chen,Xiaohui Zhang,Xiaohui Zhang,Jin Zhu,Jiagang Zhao,Hong Ouyang,Hongrong Luo,Hongrong Luo,Yaojun Song,Janet Lee,Sherrina Patel,Peter X. Shaw,Srinivas R. Sadda,Yehong Zhuo,Michael G. Rosenfeld,Kang Zhang,Kang Zhang,Kang Zhang +20 more
TL;DR: Data from this study show that TCF7L2-rs7903146 is associated with PDR in Caucasian T2DM and suggest thatTCF 7L2 promotes pathological retinal neovascularization via ER stress–dependent upregulation of VEGFA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inhibition of RhoA/Rho-kinase pathway suppresses the expression of extracellular matrix induced by CTGF or TGF-β in ARPE-19.
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that both TGF-β and CTGF upregulate the expression of ECM components including fibronectin, laminin, MMP-2 and type I collagen by activating the RhoA/ROCK signaling pathway.
