30 Sep 2008TL;DR: In this paper, a technique for ensuring that media playback proceeds sequentially through media content of a digital media asset is described, where distinct portions (e.g., segments) of a video asset can be separately encrypted such that on playback decoded data being output from at least one prior portion can be used to derive a cryptographic key that is used in decrypting a subsequent portion of the video asset.
Abstract: Techniques for ensuring that media playback proceeds sequentially through media content of a digital media asset are disclosed. In one embodiment, distinct portions (e.g., segments) of a digital media asset can be separately encrypted such that on playback decoded data being output from at least one prior portion can be used to derive a cryptographic key that is used in decrypting a subsequent portion of the digital media asset.

30 Sep 2008TL;DR: In this article, a system for transportation check-in (e.g., ticketing and identification) via near field communication (NFC) using a handheld electronic device, such as a cellular phone or a personal media player.
Abstract: There is provided a method and system for transportation check-in (e.g., ticketing and identification) via near field communication (NFC) using a handheld electronic device, such as a cellular phone or a personal media player. The handheld device may store and transmit travel reservations and traveler identifications using a travel management application. Various methods may be employed to acquire the reservation and identification information on the handheld device. For example, travel reservations may be made via the management application or may be retrieved from an email, a website, another NFC-enabled device, or a carrier-provided confirmation number. User identification may be acquired by scanning a radio frequency identification tag embedded in a government-issued I.D. In another embodiment, an I.D. number may be entered via the travel management application, and the user's identification information may be downloaded from the issuing authority.

06 Nov 2013TL;DR: In this article, the suckout component of the insertion loss is minimized by providing cables that eliminate, shift, or reduce the suck out component of insertion loss by providing a continuous return path and/or shifting the frequency of the cable to a high frequency where it no longer interferes or significantly attenuates signals being conveyed by the cable.
Abstract: Cables capable of high-speed data transmission and having a low insertion loss. Examples may mitigate the effect of the suckout component of insertion loss by providing cables that eliminated, shift, or reduce the suckout. Examples may eliminate, or at least partially eliminate, the suckout component by providing a continuous return path. Others may shift the frequency of the suckout component to a high frequency where it no longer interferes or significantly attenuates signals being conveyed by the cable. Still others may reduce or control the magnitude of the suckout component.

31 Mar 2010TL;DR: In this paper, a multifunction device with a touch-sensitive display concurrently displays a first virtual keyboard at a first location on the touch sensitive display and a second virtual keyboard on a second location, distinct from the first location.
Abstract: A multifunction device with a touch-sensitive display concurrently displays a first virtual keyboard at a first location on the touch-sensitive display and a second virtual keyboard at a second location, distinct from the first location, on the touch-sensitive display. In response to detecting a first finger gesture on a first key in the first virtual keyboard, an action corresponding to the first key in the first virtual keyboard is performed. In response to detecting a second finger gesture on a second key in the second virtual keyboard, an action corresponding to the second key in the second virtual keyboard is performed.

10 Mar 2008TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a method to interrupt the video playback function and quickly resume playback prior to reloading the selected video file, which can store video data in a cache memory and capture a frame of video data at approximately the time of the interruption.
Abstract: Video data files are provided to a user for playback. Once playback begins, the methods and apparatus of the present invention enable a user to interrupt the video playback function and quickly resume playback prior to reloading the selected video file. The techniques of the present invention can store video data in a cache memory and, upon interruption, capture a frame of video data at approximately the time of the interruption. The captured frame and cache data can be used to provide the user with a unique menu option for resumption of the video playback at the moment of interruption.
