TL;DR: In this article, a graphical user interface (GUI) and accompanying functionality for binding Web page definitional elements to a back-end state (e.g., client- or server-side backend state) and custom logic is provided.
Abstract: A graphical user interface (GUI) and accompanying functionality for binding Web page definitional elements to a back-end state (e.g., client- or server-side back-end state) and custom logic is provided. In one embodiment, a template containing definitional elements, custom logic, and bindings are generated that define all or a portion of a Web page based on input received and functionality provided by the invention.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for generating and observing a transition between a first and second sequence of information is presented, which is performed on a computer controlled display system and a computer-controlled sound generation system.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating and observing a transition between a first and second sequence of information. The invention is practiced on a computer controlled display system and a computer controlled sound generation system. The method includes providing the first stream and the second stream of information to the computer system; creating a template for modifying an audio signal during a transition from the first stream of information to the second stream of information; specifying the duration of the transition and specifying at least a portion of the first stream and a portion of the second stream for the transition; creating an audio transition using the audio template for modifying an audio signal and using the portion of the first stream and the portion of second stream. Another aspect of the invention includes a method for controlling the rate of transistion from the first stream of digital information to the second stream of digital information which method includes: providing the first stream of information and second stream of information to the computer system; providing a rate transition template for specifying the rate of transition during the transistion; specifying the duration of the transistion and at least a portion of the first stream and the second stream for the transition; creating the transition using the rate template and the portions of the first and second streams, wherein the rate transition template includes a visual representation of the rate of transition over the duration of the transition.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an apparatus for managing power consumption in a multi-function electronic device powered by one or more batteries, where the power available from the one or multiple batteries is diminished (e.g., below a certain threshold).
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for managing power consumption in a multi-function electronic device powered by one or more batteries are provided. In one embodiment, when the power available from the one or more batteries is diminished (e.g., below a certain threshold), management of power consumption in a battery-powered electronic device (e.g., a portable electronic device) can operate or be operated to preserve one or more functions supported by the electronic device. For example, the one or more functions can be preserved by: (i) alerting a user that they should act to avoid usage of other functions that are not being preserved, and/or (ii) disabling (e.g., automatically) one or more of the other functions that are not being preserved.

TL;DR: A vibrator mounting bracket may hold a vibrator in place within the housing and a threaded insert may be welded to the spring to attach the vibrator to the housing as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A portable electronic device such as a handheld electronic device is provided. The device may have upper and lower portions. The upper portion may have clips that attach to springs on the lower portion. The device may have a housing with a bezel. A prong on the springs may ground the bezel. A vibrator mounting bracket may hold a vibrator in place within the housing. The vibrator mounting bracket may have an end that engages the housing. A threaded insert may be welded to the spring. A screw that passes through a hole in the vibrator mounting bracket may be screwed into the threaded insert to attach the vibrator to the housing. An elastomeric member may bias the vibrator towards the bracket. An acoustic module may serve as a subassembly for the device. Components such as an antenna, dock connector, microphone, and speaker may be attached to the acoustic module.

TL;DR: In this paper, one or more sensors can be located behind an opaque mask area of the device; the mask area extending between the sides of a housing of a device and viewing area of a touch screen display.
Abstract: Devices having one or more sensors located outside a viewing area of a touch screen display are disclosed. The one or more sensors can be located behind an opaque mask area of the device; the opaque mask area extending between the sides of a housing of the device and viewing area of the touch screen display. In addition, the sensors located behind the mask can be separate from a touch sensor panel used to detect objects on or near the touch screen display, and can be used to enhance or provide additional functionality to the device. For example, a device having a sensor located outside the viewing area can be used to detect objects in proximity to a functional component incorporated in the device, such as an ear piece (i.e., speaker for outputting sound). The sensor can also output a signal indicating a level of detection which may be interpreted by a controller of the device as a level of proximity of an object to the functional component. In addition, the controller can initiate a variety of actions related to the functional component based on the output signal, such as adjusting the volume of the earpiece.
