19 Nov 2010TL;DR: In this paper, a radiation shield is between the emitter and the detector, and extends to the bottom of the radiation passing layer, and a radiation absorber is positioned to provide a radiation seal between the top surface of the shield and the bottom surface.
Abstract: A radiation passing layer has a top surface and a bottom surface below which a proximity sensor is positioned. A radiation shield is between the emitter and the detector, and extends to the bottom of the radiation passing layer. A radiation absorber being a separate piece and of a different material than the shield is positioned to provide a radiation seal between the top surface of the shield and the bottom surface of the radiation passing layer. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

14 May 2008TL;DR: In this paper, a routing screen is presented on an electronic device by a user interface application in response to receiving a notification that an external audio device is connected to the electronic device.
Abstract: A routing screen is presented on an electronic device by a user interface application in response to receiving a notification that an external audio device is connected to the electronic device. The routing screen displays representations of an internal audio device and the external audio device. In one aspect, the representations are buttons. In another aspect, the representations are entries in a list. If a user selects one of representations, the user interface application causes the audio signals to be routed to the audio device represented by the selection. An application control screen having a set of objects that represent functions for an audio application may also be displayed. One of the objects on the application control screen is modified in response status changes in the external audio device. A user may select this object to access the routing screen when the external audio device is connected.

12 May 1992TL;DR: In this article, a method and apparatus for lossless compression and decompression of video image data is presented. But this method requires a large amount of data and storage of such video data can require large amounts of data.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for lossless compression and decompression of video image data. Video data is composed of the RGB, YUV or gray scale (color) information for each pixel of each frame of the video data. Storage of such video data can require large amounts of data. The present invention provides for lossless compression and decompression of the individual frames of video image data. Each individual frame of video image data is processed in n×n pixel blocks. The combination of colors (called the color list) and the number of different colors in the pixel block is then determined. If the number of colors is above a predetermined threshold, no compression occurs. If the number of colors is below a predetermined threshold, searches for prior occurrences of the combination of colors is than performed. In some instances, a color list for contiguous pixel blocks will be the same. In this instance, a pixel map representing the positioning of the colors in the pixel block is output. Further, each encountered combination of colors is stored as an entry in a color cache. The color cache is subsequently used as a color combination dictionary. In such instances of a pixel block where it's color list is in the color cache, an index to the entry into the color cache is used to represent the colors found in the pixel block. The color cache need not be stored with the compressed data stream since it is reconstructed during decompression of the compressed data stream.

07 Jan 2007TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe systems, methods and computer readable media for providing or managing or using voicemails, and present a method for sending data representing an expiration time of a voicemail left for a user of the first data processing system and storing the data representing the expiration time for later use by the first Data Processing System.
Abstract: Systems, methods and computer readable media for providing or managing or using voicemails are described. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving, at a first data processing system, data representing an expiration time of a voicemail left for a user of the first data processing system and storing the data representing the expiration time for later use by the first data processing system. Systems, media, and other methods are also described.

07 Apr 1992TL;DR: In this paper, a method for defining and identifying valid patterns for used in a pattern recognition system is presented, which is particularly well suited for patterns comprised of subpatterns which have multi-dimensional relationships.
Abstract: A method for defining and identifying valid patterns for used in a pattern recognition system. The method is particularly well suited for defining and recognizing patterns comprised of subpatterns which have multi-dimensional relationships. The definition portion is embodied in a constrained attribute grammar. The constrained attribute grammar includes nonterminal, keyword and non-keyword symbols, attribute definitions corresponding to each symbol, a set of production rules, and a relevance measure for each of the key symbols. Each of the symbols represents a subpattern. The production rules includes syntactic, semantic, constraints and action portions. It is the production rules which define the dimensional relationships between the various subpatterns. An instantiation of a constrained attribute grammar is called a language. The verification portion is comprised of a parsing scheme that determines validity of a pattern. The verification portion receives a set of input subpatterns provided by a character recognition system and a provided language. When a valid pattern is recognized, a representation of the pattern in a form suitable for use by a data manipulation means is provides as output.
