TL;DR: In this article, value stream mapping (VSM) is used for analyzing material and information flow on a specific product family in an Indian auto components industry. But, the study clearly shows that the VSM brings out the positive impact on process ratio, TAKT time, process inventory level, line speed, total lead and process time and reduced man power.
Abstract: Purpose – Value stream mapping (VSM) is a lean manufacturing (LM) tool used for analyzing material and information flow on a specific product family. The purpose of this article is to address the importance of VSM in LM environment in an Indian auto components industry. Design/methodology/approach – The case study approach has been used to show the applicability and importance of VSM in an Indian auto components company, in which the current state of manufacturing is mapped with the help of VSM symbols. According to the current state mapping, the study conducted analysis and identifies the area of improvement needed in terms of work in process, lead time and cycle time. The study further implemented kaizen on the current state map and developed future state map while including these kaizens. Findings – The study clearly shows that the VSM brings out the positive impact on process ratio, TAKT time, process inventory level, line speed, total lead and process time and reduced man power. It is helping the com...

TL;DR: A cross sectional study on immunization coverage in the town of Pilani showed that high levels of initial vaccination rates and low levels of OPV3/DPT3 and measles vaccines indicate that completing vaccination schedule needs attention.
Abstract: A cross sectional study on immunization coverage in the town of Pilani was conducted and a total of 166 mothers were interviewed using a pre-tested interview schedule/questionnaire on Knowledge, Attitudes, Perceptions and Expectations (KAPE). The results showed that among the 12-24 month old children 50% fully, 31.3% partially and 18.7% not at all immunized. High levels of initial vaccination rates and low levels of OPV3/DPT3 (62.7%) and measles (51.8%) vaccines indicate that completing vaccination schedule needs attention. Almost all the children in the study, 165 out of 166 received two doses of polio vaccine from the Pulse Polio Immunization programme. Majority of the mothers expressed favourable attitudes and satisfaction regarding the programme. Though many were aware of the importance of vaccination in general, specific information about importance of completing the schedule and knowledge about vaccine preventable diseases other than poliomyelities was very limited. Obstacles, misconceptions/beliefs among the mothers of partially immunized children and lack of information among not at all immunized group were the main reasons of non-immunization. The implications of the study are: to enhance the maternal knowledge about the vaccine preventable diseases and importance of completing the immunization schedule through interpersonal mode and to overcome obstacles to immunization such as accessibility and lack of family support.

TL;DR: In this article, a study was conducted using satellite remote sensing data Landsat MSS (Multi-spectral Scanner), ETM+(Enhanced Thematic Mapper), IRS P-6 (Indian Remote Sensing Satellite), LISS IV (Linear Imaging Self-Scanner), and IRSP-5 Cartosat-1 for the assessment of urban area change dynamics between years 1976 and 2008 in Bhagalpur city in the state of Bihar in India.
Abstract: Land consumption is increasing rapidly with the exponential growth of population. The built-up environment configuration influences the management processes for development and other municipality works. Population growth also affects the availability of land for different purposes in its spatial distribution. The present study was conducted using satellite remote sensing data Landsat MSS (Multi-spectral Scanner), ETM+ (Enhanced Thematic Mapper), IRS P-6 (Indian Remote Sensing Satellite), LISS IV (Linear Imaging Self-Scanner), and IRS P-5 Cartosat-1 for the assessment of urban area change dynamics between years 1976 and 2008 in Bhagalpur city in the state of Bihar in India. The ground truth and coordinate points were collected using a Global Positioning System (GPS) for the location of the built-up themes prepared in the Geographic Information System (GIS). Land Consumption Rate (LCR) and Land Absorption Coefficient (LAC) were introduced to aid in the quantitative assessment changes. The results show a rap...
