TL;DR: Results support that A. jamaicensis feeds on a relatively poor assemblage of fruits in the Pantanal, and Ficus pertusa was the most common seed species and presented fast germination after passing through bats.
Abstract: We studied the assemblage of seed species and other food items defecated by juvenile and adult male and female individuals of Artibeus jamaicensis (Phyllostomidae) in three habitats in the Pantanal wetlands. The most frequent item in A. jamaicensis fecal samples were seeds (65%), followed by fruit pulp (30%), insects (20%), leaves (8%), and pollen (7%). Seeds of Ficus pertusa, F. gomelleira, Ficus sp., and Cecropia pachystachya were recorded in fecal samples from all three habitats while seeds of Banara arguta were exclusive to riparian forests. The relative occurrence of seed species in the fecal samples did not differ among sex or different‐aged individuals. Ficus pertusa was the most common seed species and presented fast germination after passing through bats. Seeds of C. pachystachya which passed through A. jamaicensis had a lower germination rate than those uneaten. Overall results support that A. jamaicensis feeds on a relatively poor assemblage of fruits in the Pantanal.

TL;DR: Sera of cattle infected with A. marginale, with homologous or heterologous isolates recognize recombinant VirB9, VirB10, and EF-Tu and support the inclusion of these proteins in recombinant vaccines against this rickettsia.
Abstract: Anaplasma marginale is an important vector-borne rickettsia of ruminants in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Immunization with purified outer membranes of this organism induces protection against acute anaplasmosis. Previous studies, with proteomic and genomic approach identified 21 proteins within the outer membrane immunogen in addition to previously characterized major surface protein1a-5 (MSP1a-5). Among the newly described proteins were VirB9, VirB10, and elongation factor-Tu (EF-Tu). VirB9, VirB10 are considered part of the type IV secretion system (TFSS), which mediates secretion or cell-to-cell transfer of macromolecules, proteins, or DNA-protein complexes in Gram-negative bacteria. EF-Tu can be located in the bacterial surface, mediating bacterial attachment to host cells, or in the bacterial cytoplasm for protein synthesis. However, the roles of VirB9, VirB10, and TFSS in A. marginale have not been defined. VirB9, VirB10, and EF-Tu have not been explored as vaccine antigens. In this study, we demonstrate that sera of cattle infected with A. marginale, with homologous or heterologous isolates recognize recombinant VirB9, VirB10, and EF-Tu. IgG2 from naturally infected cattle also reacts with these proteins. Recognition of epitopes by total IgG and by IgG2 from infected cattle with A. marginale support the inclusion of these proteins in recombinant vaccines against this rickettsia.

TL;DR: In the second metade do seculo XX, o desenvolvimento economico e as evolucoes dos modos de vida ocasionaram modificacoes importantes nos comportamentos alimentares as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Durante a segunda metade do seculo XX, o desenvolvimento economico e as evolucoes dos modos de vida ocasionaram modificacoes importantes nos comportamentos alimentares.

TL;DR: In this article, a study was conducted in a riparian forest (Rio Paraguai, Brazil) to verify the vegetation mortality after an exceptional flooding in 1995, where individuals with diameter at breast height > 5 cm were sampled in 108 (10×10m) plots and re-sampled in 1996.
Abstract: A study was conducted in a riparian forest (Rio Paraguai, Brazil) to verify the vegetation mortality after an exceptional flooding in 1995. Individuals with diameter at breast height > 5 cm were sampled in 108 (10×10m) plots in 1994, and re-sampled in 1996. The total mortality rate was 4.1% per year. The mortality increased with the increasing of topographic positions, at community level, suggesting that places where the flooding is less frequent are more affected by extreme floods.
