TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the effect of family-friendly practices (FFP) on organizational attractiveness and found that FFPs do have a main effect on attractiveness, however, this main effect may be moderated by desire for segmentation.
Abstract: In a context of labour shortage, organizations face immense pressures to attract the best employees, and therefore deploy great efforts to increase their organizational attractiveness. In order to appeal to working women or younger workers, some organizations have implemented policies designed to balance work and family. Yet, the effect of such family-friendly practices (FFPs) on organizational attractiveness has seldom been investigated; this study endeavours to fill this gap. The literature review led us to posit that organizations that have implemented FFPs are more attractive to applicants (H1). However, this main effect may be moderated by desire for segmentation (H2). Role segmentation refers to the separation of personal and professional roles, while role integration designates the blurring of boundaries between roles. For example, individuals with a high level of desire for segmentation may be more attracted to companies that offer segmentation strategies (e.g., flexible scheduling) than to companies that offer integration practices (e.g., telecommuting). Finally, the effect of corporate reputation is also tested (H3). Using a policy-capturing research design, we tested the distinct effect of four FFPs (on-site child care; generous personal leaves; flexible scheduling; teleworking) on applicant attraction as well as the effects of organizational reputation and candidates’ desire for segmentation. Our results indicate that FFPs do have a main effect on attractiveness. More specifically, the two scenarios that received the highest scores on attractiveness were personal leaves and flexible scheduling. Contrary to expectations, we did not find a significant “Desire for segmentation x Family-friendly practices” interaction. However, the results reveal a significant three-way interaction, which indicates that the anticipated Desire for segmentation x Family-friendly practices is significant for some values of the reputation variable. As expected, corporate reputation does have a significant main effect on attractiveness. The implications of this study are discussed in conclusion.

TL;DR: The challenges faced by IT trainers in adapt-ing to this innovative training approach are addressed and instructors are provided with guidelines to create a learning environment that reflects the true complexity of the business world.
Abstract: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are commercial software packages that enable the integration of transactions-oriented data and business processes throughout an organization. Most of the world’s largest organizations have already adopted an ERP system, and many mid-size or-ganizations are turning to them as well. The implementation of an ERP system presents some ma-jor training challenges. Organizations devote significant portions of their implementation budgets to training and organizational change management interventions. Industry experts recommend that up to 20% of an implementation budget be devoted to adequately preparing managers and users. Studies also show a low return on investment for this type of training as it makes it difficult for knowledge workers to teach how to transfer what is learned in training to real-life jobs. Inade-quate and ineffective training has the potential to seriously limit value realization. In that context, this paper presents ERPsim, a business simulation training approach developed at HEC Montreal in which the only interface between participants and the game is a real-life enterprise system (SAP). ERPsim recreates a realistic business environment that allows learners to develop IT com-petencies and skills in a setting that reflects the true complexity of the business world. This simu-lation approach is now used in over 100 universities and a dozen Fortune 1000 organizations. Yet, our experience shows that trainers need to approach simulation game training with a differ-ent attitude. This paper addresses the challenges faced by IT trainers in adapt-ing to this innovative training approach. Based on our many training experiences, this paper provides instructors with guidelines to create a learning environ-

TL;DR: In this article, a discussion about the papel da educacao superior and notadamente dos cursos de Administracao and Gestao is presented, in a context of a significant aumento in the number of instituicoes de ensino superior that apresenta efetiva motivacao for formar estudantes com conhecimento e habilidades necessarios for colocar a sustentabilidade no centro de suas future atividades de gestao.
