TL;DR: In this paper, a microcalorimeter was used to examine graphite flakes and zero results were obtained at the operating temperatures, signifying very low reactivity, and a semi-quantitative calculation was performed to deduce at what temperature the graphite would give a positive signal, and this was shown to be 50-60 degrees above the operating range of the instrument.
Abstract: Graphite flakes were examined in a microcalorimeter and zero results obtained at the operating temperatures, signifying very low reactivity. Other materials including sawdust and coal were examined in the instrument in similar quantities, with positive results. A semi-quantitative calculation was performed to deduce at what temperature the graphite would give a positive signal, and this was shown to be 50-60 degrees above the operating range of the instrument.

TL;DR: In this paper , a sociological study of conversion narratives is presented, where the conversion story is considered as a narrative account, and the sociologists use it to explain the conversion and the factors that led to it.
Abstract: Using Paul Ricoeur’s theory of narrative to consider John Lofland and Rodney Stark’s classic “Becoming a World-Saver”, I address a fundamental conundrum in the sociology of conversion. If the conversion story is told in the light of the new discourse—brought about by the conversion—how can sociologists use it to explain the conversion and the factors that led to it? I consider the extent to which the sociology of religion has conflated the necessary elements of narrative structure for the stages of conversion. Taking into consideration more recent research, the article makes a case for the careful and comparative sociological study of conversion narratives—considered as narrative accounts. I argue that doing so further opens up avenues for research, particularly if the audiences are considered for whom the stories are told and the purposes the stories serve, and ultimately constitutes a sound basis for considering the processes of conversion themselves.

TL;DR: The conjugation diameter of a group G is the largest diameter of its Cayley graphs with respect to conjugations invariant generating sets as mentioned in this paper, which is a strong form of the extensively studied concept of the diameter of G.
Abstract: The conjugation diameter of a group G is the largest diameter of its Cayley graphs with respect to conjugation-invariant generating sets. It is a strong form of the extensively studied concept of the diameter of G. We compute the conjugation diameter of the symmetric groups.

TL;DR: Two important results concerning the invariance of both PS and the MIR are demonstrated and it is shown that for proper time transformations the timing between the cycles of the coupled oscillators can be largely improved.
Abstract: We investigate the effect of general time transformations on the phase synchronization (PS) phenomenon and the mutual information rate (MIR) between pairs of nodes in dynamical networks We demonstrate two important results concerning the invariance of both PS and the MIR Under time transformations PS can neither be introduced nor destroyed and the MIR cannot be raised from zero On the other hand, for proper time transformations the timing between the cycles of the coupled oscillators can be largely improved Finally, we discuss the relevance of our findings for communication in dynamical networks

TL;DR: In this paper , a pre-charged capacitor is used in the auxiliary branch of a circuit breaker to enable rapid commutation of the fault current from the disconnector in the main branch.
