TL;DR: In this paper, the dielectric data provided strong evidence both for the ''cooperativity'' concept and for the existence of two states (interfacial layer and volume liquid).
Abstract: The molecular dynamics of glass-forming liquids is strongly affected by nm-scale confinements. Our dielectric data provide strong evidence both for the ``cooperativity'' concept and for the existence of two states (interfacial layer and volume liquid). With decreasing size of confinement the orientational relaxation associated with the glass transition becomes faster, and the glass transition temperature is lowered. These effects are stronger for 3D confined droplets than for 2D confined pores. However, the radius at which size effects cease, i.e., the cooperativity length, does not depend on the dimensionality of the confinement.

TL;DR: The results obtained from the online application of the proposed FRBS are found to overperform those of the offline application and conventional statistical techniques, when modeling both univariate and multivariate traffic data corresponding to a real signalized urban arterial corridor.
Abstract: This paper presents an adaptive hybrid fuzzy rule-based system (FRBS) approach for the modeling and short-term forecasting of traffic flow in urban arterial networks. Such an approach possesses the advantage of suitably addressing data imprecision and uncertainty, and it enables the incorporation of expert’s knowledge on local traffic conditions within the model structure. The model employs univariate and multivariate data structures and uses a Genetic Algorithm for the offline and online tuning of the FRBS membership functions according to the prevailing traffic conditions. The results obtained from the online application of the proposed FRBS are found to overperform those of the offline application and conventional statistical techniques, when modeling both univariate and multivariate traffic data corresponding to a real signalized urban arterial corridor.

TL;DR: A scalable logo recognition approach that extends the common bag-of-words model and incorporates local geometry in the indexing process and represents triangles by signatures capturing both visual appearance and local geometry.
Abstract: We propose a scalable logo recognition approach that extends the common bag-of-words model and incorporates local geometry in the indexing process. Given a query image and a large logo database, the goal is to recognize the logo contained in the query, if any. We locally group features in triples using multi-scale Delaunay triangulation and represent triangles by signatures capturing both visual appearance and local geometry. Each class is represented by the union of such signatures over all instances in the class. We see large scale recognition as a sub-linear search problem where signatures of the query image are looked up in an inverted index structure of the class models. We evaluate our approach on a large-scale logo recognition dataset with more than four thousand classes.
