Abstract: This article seeks to empirically explore the relationship between dynamic capabilities and firm performance. In particular, it addresses the question of whether dynamic capabilities impact directly or indirectly on performance. In doing so, the article articulates and measures a construct of dynamic capabilities and using structural equation modeling it examines whether their impact on performance is mediated through operational—marketing and technological— capabilities. The proposed model is tested in different levels of environmental dynamism using data on 271 Greek firms belonging to the manufacturing sector. Empirical findings suggest that dynamic capabilities impinge on operational capabilities which in turn have a significant effect on performance. Direct effects on performance are found to be insignificant. Furthermore, similar effects seem to hold for both higher and lower levels of environmental dynamism. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Abstract: The recent statements of both the European Union and the US Presidency pushed in the direction of using renewable forms of energy, in order to act against climate changes induced by the growing concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. In this paper, a survey regarding methods and tools presently available to determine potential and exploitable energy in the most important renewable sectors (i.e., solar, wind, wave, biomass and geothermal energy) is presented. Moreover, challenges for each renewable resource are highlighted as well as the available tools that can help in evaluating the use of a mix of different sources.

Abstract: The future grid is evolving into a smart distribution network that integrates multiple distributed energy resources ensuring at the same time reliable operation and increased power quality. In recent years, many research papers have addressed the voltage violation problems that arise from the high penetration of distributed generation. In view of the transition to active network management and the increase in the quantity of collected data, distributed control schemes have been proposed that use pervasive communications to deal with the complexity of smart grid. This paper reviews the recent publications on distributed and decentralized voltage control of smart distribution networks, summarizes their control models, and classifies the solution methodologies. Moreover, it comments on issues that should be addressed in the future and the perspectives of industry applications.
