TL;DR: It showed high caries index, gingival index and periodontal index in earthquake affected people suggesting further efforts are needed for an oral health improvement.
Abstract: Background Understanding post-earthquake oral health indicators is essential for developing oral health interventions of the victims. Presumably, due to a geographic difficulty, there has been no investigation to reveal the oral health status of individuals after the Gorkha earthquake in Nepal. Objective The main objective was to determine the oral health and practice of Nepalese affected by earthquake in April-May, 2015. Method The epidemiological cross sectional study was done at 5 different districts (Sindhupalchok, Dadhing, Bhaktapur, Kathmandu and Kavre) of Nepal from September till November, 2015. Altogether 500 subjects aged form 16 to 80 years of age living in the transitional shelters community were included in earthquake-affected areas. Different parameters were studied from past and present medical and dental problems, habits, oral hygiene habits. DMFT, gingival index, periodontal index were studied and correlation was studied among them. Result It shows that 98% of the participants had plaque and 96.4% of the participants had calculus. Mean decayed was 9, mean missing was 4 and mean filling was 1. 22.60% of the participants had score 0, 34.8% had score 1, 34% had score 2 and 8.60% had score 3 of mean gingivitis index. 10% of the participants showed score 0, 36% showed score 1, 35% showed score 2, 10.2% showed score 3 and 8.2% showed score 4 of mean periodontal index. Moreover, significant correlation was observed among DMFT index, gingival index and periodontal index (p<0.001). Conclusion The oral health care practice, oral hygiene habits, nutritional intake of the people have been affected in the earthquake affected areas. It showed high caries index, gingival index and periodontal index in earthquake affected people suggesting further efforts are needed for an oral health improvement. Data from this study may be used as basic information for oral health planning and future steps in oral health care preventive and therapeutic programs.

TL;DR: Indian psychiatrists have played and are still playing significant roles in establishing as well as maintaining Psychiatry Departments, especially in the private sector medical colleges in Nepal.
Abstract: Psychiatric services remained virtually unknown in Nepal until 1961. The first psychiatric outpatient service was started in 1961, at Bir Hospital, Kathmandu. In 1984, the Psychiatry Department at Bir Hospital was separated and a mental hospital was created, which was later shifted to its current location at Lagankhel, Patan, in Kathmandu valley, in 1985. It is the only mental hospital in Nepal with a current bed strength of 50 beds. The new era in medical learning and teaching was ushered in Nepal with the establishment of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) under the Tribhuban University and the 400-bed Tribhuban University-Teaching Hospital (TU-Teaching Hospital), in the year 1983. BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) at Dharan was established in 1993, as a part of the joint Indo-Nepal collaboration on developing an international standard teaching, training, and research-oriented medical institute similar to AIIMS, New Delhi. During the last one-and-half decades a number of privately run medical colleges have come up in Nepal. Outpatient and inpatient Psychiatry Departments have been established in most of these government as well as private medical institutes. At present, the postgraduate course (MD) in psychiatry has been running in two government-run institutes as well as three privately run medical colleges. Indian psychiatrists have played and are still playing significant roles in establishing as well as maintaining Psychiatry Departments, especially in the private sector medical colleges. They have also contributed to the growth of psychiatry research and postgraduate teaching in psychiatry, in Nepal.

TL;DR: It was confirmed that the irritant contact dermatitis observed in the students residing at the UCMS hostel is Paederus dermatitis and the clinical course was revealed experimentally.
Abstract: Many cases of irritant contact dermatitis are noted every year in the students residing at the Universal College of Medical Science (UCMS) Hostel, Bhairahawa. The exact etiology of the disease was not confirmed but the suspect was an insect Paederus', commonly referred to as 'acid fly' in UCMS. However, none of the patients ever gives the clear cut history about the time of contact with the insect after noticing the lesion. So, an experiment was performed by crushing the suspected insect on the skin of the flexor aspect of the forearm and the reactions produced on the skin and the symptoms were noted every 12 hourly till the primary lesion was formed. Erythematous papules were formed initially that passed through different stages to form an erythematous plaque with many vesicles that suppurated to form sterile pustules. This resembled the common lesions observed in the students. It was confirmed that the irritant contact dermatitis observed in the students residing at the UCMS hostel is Paederus dermatitis. The clinical course of this dermatitis was also revealed experimentally. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3126/jucms.v1i4.9575 Journal of Universal College of Medical Sciences (2013) Vol.1 No.04: 48-52

TL;DR: Early laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a safe procedure when done within 7 days of symptom onset, and there were no significant difference in conversion rate, operative time, hospital stay, morbidity and mortality.
Abstract: Introduction: Although operation within “golden 72 hours” from the onset of symptoms has been suggested for acute calculus cholecystitis, such early surgery is hardly possible in clinical practice because of variable timing of presentation. The aim of this study is to compare the outcomes of patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy within 72 hours of symptom onset with patients undergoing surgery after 72 hours up to 7 days of symptom onset for acute calculus cholecystitis. Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study carried out from November 2016 to July 2018. Patients with acute calculus cholecystitis were divided in two groups according to the onset of symptoms. Main outcomes measured were conversion rate, duration of surgery, length of hospital stay and intraoperative complications. Results: Total 64 patients were evaluated. Among which 18 (28.1%) underwent surgery within 72 hours of onset of symptom. Around 46 (71.9%) underwent surgery after 72 hours of symptom onset. On bivariate analysis there were no significant differences in mean duration of surgery, hospital stay and conversion to open surgery between two groups. Conclusions: Early laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a safe procedure when done within 7 days of symptom onset. There were no significant difference in conversion rate, operative time, hospital stay, morbidity and mortality.
