TL;DR: The problems faced in the selection of medicinal plants, underlying cases and the possible solutions have been discussed in the following article.
Abstract: Research in Ayurveda for lead structures has continued to be an area of major scientific interest with investigators engaged in drug development. The exhaustive information available in Ayurvedic literature provides a drug researcher the opportunity to start with a well tested and safe botanical material. However, an inappropriate interpretation of Ayurvedic texts can lead to research in a wrong direction which may present as lack of effectivity or serious adverse effects with herb under investigation. The problems faced in the selection of medicinal plants, underlying cases and the possible solutions have been discussed in the following article.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented a rare case of Kawasaki disease shock syndrome (KDSS) in a nine-year-old female child and the primary treatment of this disease is aspirin and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG).
Abstract: Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute rheumatological illness usually affecting children between six months and five years of age. It is a vasculitis syndrome of medium-sized vessels that has typical clinical characteristics such as fever, rash, cervical lymphadenopathy, conjunctivitis, and mucosal changes. However, sometimes, it may present with the features of shock when it is known as Kawasaki disease shock syndrome (KDSS). The actual etiology of this disease is still unknown. The primary treatment of this disease is aspirin and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG). The most common and serious complication of KD is cardiac complications which can be avoided by IVIG if given on time. KDSS is the other rare but serious early complication that can be presented to the ED as an initial presenting feature. Early diagnosis of KDSS in the ED and its treatment is very important to prevent early and late complications, including cardiac complications of this disease. Although the usual age group for this disease is under five years, here we have presented a rare case of KDSS in a nine-year-old female child.

TL;DR: It was demonstrated that the crude methanol extract from B. bulbocastanum seeds possesses significant antidiarrheal property and the presence of various secondary metabolites that justified the antidiARRheal use of plant in the traditional system of medicine.
Abstract: Objective: The main objective of this study was to evaluate the antidiarrheal activity of Bunim bulbocastanum seeds extracts, to exploit the medicinal use of plant in the traditional system of medicine scientifically.
Methods: The adult Wistar albino rats were divided in four groups, i.e. Group M1 (control group) receiving normal saline, group M2 (test group 1) receiving the 250 mg/kg Bunium bulbocastanum extract, group M2 (test group 2) receiving the 500 mg/kg Bunium bulbocastanum extract and group M4 (reference) receiving 3 mg/kg P. O Loperamide. Each group of mice with a bodyweight of 1 ml/100 g received castor oil. Mice were sacrificed and the distance traveled by the charcoal meal and the total length of the intestine was then measured. The peristaltic index and percentage of inhibition were calculated by using the formula.
Results: It was found that in the castor oil-induced intestinal transit method extract produced a significant (p<0.0001) dose-dependent reduction in the distance traveled by charcoal meal comparable to the control peak effect was at the dose of 500 mg/kg (PI=12.06±3.38). Likewise, in the diarrheal dropping test, Bunium bulbocastanum extract causes a significant (p<0.05) dose-dependent reduction in the number of wet feces i.e. the mean wet of feces was decreased from 2.3±0.44 gm to 1.28±0.36 gm i.e. significantly different from that elicited by control (0.80±0.17 gm) (p=0.0081). However, there were no significant differences in inhibition at a dose of 250 mg/kg of extract.
Conclusion: This study demonstrated that the crude methanol extract from B. bulbocastanum seeds possesses significant antidiarrheal property and the presence of various secondary metabolites. This justified the antidiarrheal use of plant in the traditional system of medicine.

01 Jan 2017TL;DR: A Windows-based application for live motion gesture recognition using web-camera as input built using Java, and using this input to control a video/audio player (VLC media player).
Abstract: In this research paper we wish to develop a Windows-based application for live motion gesture recognition using web-camera as input built using Java, and using this input to control a video/audio player (VLC media player). A combination of user motion detection and gesture recognition will be used. This application uses the webcam to detect gestures made by the user and perform basic operations such as play/pause, volume up, volume down, next, previous.

31 Oct 2015TL;DR: The implementation of a WSN (Wireless Sensor Network) based embedded system supported by ZigBee network (over IEEE 802.15.4) for organizing Greenhouse parameters is illustrated and real time supervision of parameters such as temperature, humidity as well as the total power consumption of the system is demonstrated.
Abstract: In order to meet the increasing need for quality conscience crops and to utilize the resources
efficiently, the concept of Greenhouse was introduced. It assists in accurate monitoring and controlling of
various parameters, in order to nurture healthy crops. In this paper efforts are made to acknowledge the
problems associated with maintaining precise environmental conditions, and to implement a sophisticated
system to supervise the real-time monitoring and controlling operation inside the Greenhouse. The necessity
for an Automated System deploying wireless communication and remote sensing is considered. This paper
illustrates the implementation of a WSN (Wireless Sensor Network) based embedded system supported by
ZigBee network (over IEEE 802.15.4) for organizing Greenhouse parameters. The establishment of various
topologies supported by ZigBee network viz. Star topology & Mesh Topology are illustrated. It also
demonstrates the real time supervision of parameters such as temperature, humidity as well as the total
power consumption of the system, along with appropriate sensors. With the help of a PC based GUI
application developed on Java platform graphs are plotted to evaluate the system performance.
