TL;DR: The bone anomalies observed and recorded in the pre- and post-contact skeletal series from the Panamanian Pacific were described, and a number of changes were found between the two periods, concerning MSM (Musculoskeletal Stress Markers), DJD (Degenerative Joint Disease), porotic hyperostosis and trauma, as well as changes that are classified as ‘cultural’.
Abstract: Panama Viejo, a coastal site in the Panamanian Pacific, was occupied from ca. AD 850 to 1200 and from the arrival of the Europeans in AD 1519 to 1671. This paper describes the bone anomalies observed and recorded in the pre- and post-contact skeletal series from the site. The bone anomaly frequencies were calculated, taking their observability into account. A number of changes were found between the two periods, concerning MSM (Musculoskeletal Stress Markers), DJD (Degenerative Joint Disease), porotic hyperostosis and trauma, as well as changes that are classified as ‘cultural’. However, these differences were significant only in the case of porotic hyperostosis and the ‘cultural’ anomalies. Further investigations using an enlarged series should clarify the impact of European contact in this region.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a strategic national freight transport modelling framework developed as a variant of the traditional four-step modelling process with additional steps to estimate traffic flows from freight flows and to consider empty trips.
Abstract: Freight transport modelling at interregional scale is relevant for planning issues. However, freight modelling processes are complex because it is not easy to define the relevant variables in the analysis, and to obtain the required information on freight movements through the network. These facts raise the need to adapt the modelling framework to each context. This paper proposes a strategic national freight transport modelling framework developed as a variant of the traditional four-step modelling process with additional steps to estimate traffic flows from freight flows and to consider empty trips. The country of Colombia is used as the case study to implement and calibrate the proposed model. The data, data sources, and modelling methodologies used for each step are explained. In addition, data limitations and measures taken to complement the available data are discussed. From the implementation, the authors identify a set of advantages derived from the modelling approaches considered and suggestions for improvement.

TL;DR: Overall, the multiregression analysis is a very effective method to enrich the understanding of NO2 distributions and can provide scientific evidence for the relationship between NO2 and traffic, beneficial for developing the targeted policies and measures to reduce NO2 pollution levels in hot spots.
