TL;DR: The effect of Nb as a support modifier on the NiMo6/Al2O3/Nb2O5(x) catalysts was studied in this paper, where supports were prepared by one-pot coprecipitation from soluble precursors.
Abstract: The effect of Nb as a support modifier on the NiMo6/Al2O3–Nb2O5(x) (x = 0, 1, 4, and 8 wt% Nb) catalysts was studied The supports were prepared by one-pot coprecipitation from soluble precursors The XRF analysis of the catalysts showed that the contents of Mo and Ni increased slightly with the presence of Nb Micropore area and pore volume augmented importantly with Nb content, resulting in pore diameters between 53 and 93 nm XPS analysis showed that the presence of Nb decreases the active metal–support interaction, improving the Mo and Ni sulfidation degree The Raman spectra of sulfided catalysts suggested an increase in the number of layers of MoS2 in the presence of Nb Generally, the thiophene HDS activity at normal pressure of sulfided NiMo6/Al2O3–Nb2O5(8) was greater than that of the sulfided catalysts with x = 0, 1, and 4 wt% Nb, which can be attributed to the Nb promotion that would have an effect on the type of active site (Bronsted or Lewis acidic sites), since the number of sites by CO chemisorption for sulfided NiMo6/Al2O3–Nb2O5(x) did not show correlation with the catalytic activity The high-pressure HDS activity of dibenzothiophene was also greater in the presence of Nb, and the hydrogenation route was preferred for the Nb-promoted solid, while the unpromoted one showed a larger yield of direct desulfurization products

TL;DR: A content analysis of 532 programs screened on various national television networks in Colombia as discussed by the authors examines portrayals of women in the country's narconovelas, fictional series derived from the telenovela genre that resonate forcefully with the public.
Abstract: Through a content analysis of 532 programs screened on various national television networks in Colombia, this paper examines portrayals of women in the country’s narconovelas, fictional series derived from the telenovela genre that resonate forcefully with the public. We do so in order to gain a better understanding of their role in representing gender in Colombia. Relevant topics include: the widespread violence against women in a traditional, patriarchal country, the ineffectiveness of policies targeting gender discrimination, and ideologies of machismo and Marianismo. These practices are discussed as factors that may prevent women’s social empowerment and participation in the workforce and politics of the country. Our results show that, as per Colombia’s prevailing social relations, narconovelas demonstrate a gendered power imbalance and mestizo heteronormativity via macho plots that glamorize violence against women. Women are rarely key characters in narconovelas, and when they appear, they are dependent on men, and attain status through men or their families. In addition, the genre represents continuous verbal and physical aggression against women, especially if they belong to ethnic or racial minorities.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the impacts of social conformity on WTP under two different decision scenarios: individual and collective, and found that social conformity is greater when a collective decision is required, indicating that tensions between the differing goals of DMV could undermine its democratic promise.
Abstract: Deliberative monetary valuation (DMV) methods can support environmental decision making by enabling the exchange of arguments and information to produce more democratic outcomes. The product of a valuation may be an array of expressions of willingness to pay (WTP) by individuals or a collectively agreed monetary value. Concerns have been raised, however, as to whether this product is an outcome of thoughtful and independent decision-making or influenced by social pressures to conform. Our study examines this issue and addresses concerns about the use of DMV, based on a public deliberation of forest conservation in Colombia. We analyzed the impacts of social conformity on WTP under two different decision scenarios: individual and collective. The results suggest that the impacts of social conformity are greater when a collective decision is required. These findings indicate that tensions between the differing goals of DMV could undermine its democratic promise.
