TLDR
A new method for the determination of phosphorus using Triton X-100 instead of reducing agents is more sensitive than procedures described earlier and organic phosphate esters do not appear to interfere with the determined free phosphate under the conditions of the assay.

TNF activates NF-κB by phosphatidylcholine-specific phospholipase C-induced “Acidic” sphingomyelin breakdown

TL;DR: A model is proposed in which a TNF-responsive PC-PLC via DAG couples to an acidic SMase, resulting in the generation of ceramide, which eventually triggers rapid induction of nuclear NF-kappa B activity.

Endogenous digitalis-like substance in plasma of volume-expanded dogs

TL;DR: The preliminary isolation of a substance in plasma of dogs which competes with digoxin for two specific digoxin antibodies and is an inhibitor of (Na+ + K+) ATPase activity is reported, suggesting it is the putative NH.
Journal ArticleDOI

Superoxide anion permeability of phospholipid membranes and chloroplast thylakoids

TL;DR: The permeability of phospholipid membranes to the superoxide anion (O-2) was determined using soybean phospholIPid vesicles containing FMN in the internal space and chloroplast thylakoids showed little permeability to O-2.
Journal ArticleDOI

Electrostatic interactions at charged lipid membranes: I. Effects of ph and univalent cations on membrane structure

TL;DR: Good agreement between theory and experiment confirms that the expression derived for the electrostatic free energy especially in respect of its positive sign is correct, and the classical expression for the "free energy of the double layer" derived by Verwey and Overbeek is correct.
Journal ArticleDOI

K + -stimulated ATPase in purified microsomes of bullfrog oxyntic cells.

TL;DR: It was found that the basal microsomal ATPase ( i.e. without K + ) and the mitochondrial ATPase were inhibited by SCN − and enhanced by HCO 3 − , however, the K + -stimulated component of the microsome ATPase was virtually unaffected by these anions.

TL;DR: If the highest accuracy was not required, the following manipulations simplified and speeded multiple total phosphorus determinations on the eluates from column chromatographic separations.

The determination of inorganic phosphate in the presence of labile phosphate esters.

TL;DR: It has been found possible to establish conditions under which inorganic phosphate can readily be determined in the presence of labile esters.
