Anti-inflammatory and antitumoural effects of Uncaria guianensis bark

TLDR
Ug AIV was not cytotoxic for tumour cells or macrophages, and its anti-tumour effect may be due to a reduction in pro-Tumoural inflammatory processes in the tumour microenvironment, possibly mediated through NF-κB.

Unnatural spirocyclic oxindole alkaloids biosynthesis in Uncaria guianensis

TL;DR: A precursor-directed biosynthesis approach was carried out with U. guianensis and successfully obtained oxindole alkaloid analogues with molecular mass corresponding to the addition of a methyl or fluorine group on the oxindoles ring using tryptamine analogue precursors.

Ecología, manejo y aprovechamiento sustentable de la uña de gato (Uncaria guianensis (Aublet) y Uncaria tomentosa (Willd.) D.C) en comunidades Tikuna del sur de la Amazonia colombiana

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the use and manejo of una gato in the area of Tikuna, a region amazonica in the Amazonia colombiana, in which U. guianensis and Uncaria tomentosa exist.

The search for plants with anticancer activity: pitfalls at the early stages.

TL;DR: Using both theoretical considerations and experimental data, this work questions the frequent overinterpretation of reported results regarding the selectivity for cancer cells of the plant extract or compound under study, concluding that this "selectivity" is due to a quantitative difference in cell proliferation rates, rather than a qualitative difference between normal and tumour cells.

Gambogenic acid inhibits LPS-simulated inflammatory response by suppressing NF-κB and MAPK in macrophages

TL;DR: Results indicate that GEA could suppress LPS-simulated inflammatory response partially by attenuating NO synthesis and NF-κB and MAPK activation, suggesting that it may become a potent therapeutic agent for the treatment of inflammatory diseases.

NF-kappaB: linking inflammation and immunity to cancer development and progression.

TL;DR: The hypothesis is put forward that activation of nuclear factor-κB by the classical, IKK-β (inhibitor-of-NF-β kinase-β)-dependent pathway is a crucial mediator of inflammation-induced tumour growth and progression, as well as an important modulator of tumour surveillance and rejection.

Macrophages: Obligate Partners for Tumor Cell Migration, Invasion, and Metastasis

TL;DR: Macrophages within the tumor microenvironment facilitate angiogenesis and extracellular-matrix breakdown and remodeling and promote tumor cell motility and are an important drug target for cancer therapy.
