Cardiovascular Comorbidity in COPD: Systematic Literature Review
TLDR
Available observational data support the hypothesis that COPD is associated with an increased risk of CVD, and two studies found a relationship between the severity of airflow limitation and CVD risk.About:

Advances in understanding of mechanisms related to increased cardiovascular risk in COPD.
TL;DR: The present narrative review considers the mechanisms underlying the increased CV risk in COPd, and it provides insights on biomarkers and predictive models to predict CVD in COPD patients.

Utilization and effectiveness of pharmacotherapy for tobacco use following admission for exacerbation of COPD.
TL;DR: Treatment was provided to a minority of subjects and was not associated with cessation, with potential differences observed in effectiveness between medications, and systems-based changes may improve delivery of this key intervention.

TL;DR: Hypertension induced by sympathetic overactivity does not seem to be a mechanism that could explain the association between COPD and cardiovascular disease.

REM Sleep Imposes a Vascular Load in COPD Patients Independent of Sleep Apnea.
Ludger Grote,Dirk Sommermeyer,Joachim H. Ficker,Winfried Randerath,Thomas Penzel,Ingo Fietze,Bernd Sanner,Jan Hedner,Hartmut Schneider +8 more
TL;DR: In contrast to healthy controls, REM sleep imposes a vascular load in COPD patients independent of sleep apnea indices, intermittent and sustained hypoxia and REM sleep modulate arterial stiffness.

Cardiovascular and Mortality Outcomes in the Elderly With Impaired Cardiac and Pulmonary Function: The Cardiovascular Health Study (CHS)
TL;DR: While risk of cardiovascular outcomes was the highest among elderly with both LVSD and IPF, risk was comparable between subjects with IPF alone and those with LVSD alone, and risk classification improved significantly for all outcomes when IPF was added to the adjusted model with LV SD or LVSD to IPF.

Association between chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and systemic inflammation: a systematic review and a meta-analysis
TL;DR: Reduced lung function is associated with increased levels of systemic inflammatory markers which may have important pathophysiological and therapeutic implications for subjects with stable COPD.

Prevalence and outcomes of diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease in COPD.
TL;DR: Subjects with GOLD stage 3 or 4 COPD had a higher prevalence of diabetes, which contributes to a higher risk of adverse outcomes of mortality and hospitalisations, and subjects with impaired lung function had more comorbid disease.

Mortality in COPD: Role of comorbidities.
TL;DR: The current paper reviews the role of comorbidities in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease mortality, the putative underlying pathogenic link between chronic obstructives pulmonary disease and comorbrid conditions (i.e. inflammation), and the tools used to predict Chronic obstructivemonary disease mortality.
