Combination of Advanced Oxidation Processes and biological treatments for wastewater decontamination—A review

TLDR
The main conclusions arrived at from the overall assessment of the literature are that more work needs to be done on degradation kinetics and reactor modeling of the combined process, and also dynamics of the initial attack on primary contaminants and intermediate species generation.

Removal of pharmaceutical compounds from urban wastewater by an advanced bio-oxidation process based on fungi Trametes versicolor immobilized in a continuous RBC system

TL;DR: Results evidenced that the proposed ABOP is a promising alternative for the sustainable wastewater treatment of urban effluents, combining advanced oxidation with biological operation for the removal of emerging PCs and energy recovery.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of turbulent mixing on the composition of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) and aggregate size of aerated activated sludge

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of turbulent mixing on the composition of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) and aggregate size of activated sludge were investigated at varying aeration intensities.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessment of AOPs as a polishing step in the decolourisation of bio-treated textile wastewater: Technical and economic considerations

TL;DR: In this article, photo-Fenton (PF) was used as a polishing step in the decolourisation of a bio-treated real textile wastewater, and the efficiency of the UVC/Fe2+/H2O2 system was also studied for different iron concentrations, H 2O2 availability and pH values.
Journal ArticleDOI

A new winery wastewater treatment approach during vintage periods integrating ferric coagulation, Fenton reaction and activated sludge

TL;DR: In this paper, a two-stage Coagulation-Fenton's-like process was used for the treatment of winery wastewater to enhance biodegradability so that a posterior aerobic biological depuration could be possible.
