Combination of Advanced Oxidation Processes and biological treatments for wastewater decontamination—A review

TLDR
The main conclusions arrived at from the overall assessment of the literature are that more work needs to be done on degradation kinetics and reactor modeling of the combined process, and also dynamics of the initial attack on primary contaminants and intermediate species generation.

Light-Assisted Advanced Oxidation Processes for the Elimination of Chemical and Microbiological Pollution of Wastewaters in Developed and Developing Countries

TL;DR: In this work, the issue of hospital and urban wastewater treatment is studied in two different contexts, in Switzerland and in developing countries (Ivory Coast and Colombia), and the use of light-supported AOPs was proven to be effective in degrading the respective target.

Drugs of abuse and benzodiazepines in the Madrid Region (Central Spain): seasonal variation in river waters, occurrence in tap water and potential environmental and human risk.

TL;DR: Analyzes the seasonal variation of ten drugs of abuse, six metabolites and three benzodiazepines in surface waters from the Jarama and Manzanares Rivers in the Madrid Region, the most densely populated area in Spain to show that no toxic effects could be expected at the detected concentration level in tap water.
Journal ArticleDOI

Heterogeneous Fenton oxidation of paracetamol using iron oxide (nano)particles

TL;DR: In this paper, three types of iron oxides were tested as catalysts for that purpose, and the paracetamol conversion and mineralization yield were evaluated, as well as the catalyst stability upon recycling.
Journal ArticleDOI

A ferrous oxalate mediated photo-Fenton system: toward an increased biodegradability of indigo dyed wastewaters.

TL;DR: This study assessed the applicability of a ferrous oxalate mediated photo-Fenton pretreatment for indigo-dyed wastewaters as to produce a biodegradable enough effluent, likely of being derived to conventional biological processes.
