Degradation and detoxification of 4-nitrophenol by advanced oxidation technologies and bench-scale constructed wetlands.

TL;DR: The degradation and detoxification towards the duckweed Lemna minor of 4-nitrophenol (4NP) was studied by means of bench-scale constructed wetlands, TiO(2)-photocatalysis and Fenton + photoFenton reactions to evaluate their possible combination for the efficient, low cost treatment of 4NP effluents.

Ruthenium-modified zinc oxide, a highly active vis-photocatalyst: the nature and reactivity of photoactive centres

TL;DR: A series of experiments are reported specifically designed to unravel the mechanism of the visible light induced photocatalytic reactions by assessing the conduction band electron and the valence band hole activity through a novel approach tracing their signature oxidative species, i.e., hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl radicals.

o-Nitrobenzaldehyde actinometry in the presence of suspended TiO2 for photocatalytic reactors

TL;DR: In this article, the o-nitrobenzaldehyde (o-NB) actinometry is used to measure the photon flow entering a photocatalytic reactor and the influence of suspended TiO2 particles, inside the photoreactor, on o-NB actinometrics is studied.

Efficient mineralization of the antibiotic trimethoprim by solar assisted photoelectro-Fenton process driven by a photovoltaic cell.

TL;DR: A reasonable pathway of TMP degradation in SPEF process was proposed and 10 aromatic intermediates generated from hydroxylation, carbonylation and demethylation reactions were identified and two inorganic ions measured.
Journal ArticleDOI

Photocatalytic degradation of endocrine disruptor compounds under simulated solar light.

TL;DR: Under simulated UV, in contrast with the results obtained using P25, the by-products formed with ECT-1023t as catalyst do not present an estrogenic effect, and show that the formation of intermediates is related to the nature of the catalyst and depends on the experimental conditions.

TiO2 photocatalysis and related surface phenomena

TL;DR: The field of photocatalysis can be traced back more than 80 years to early observations of the chalking of titania-based paints and to studies of the darkening of metal oxides in contact with organic compounds in sunlight as discussed by the authors.
