Scale-up strategy for a combined solar photo-Fenton/biological system for remediation of pesticide-contaminated water

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a design strategy for an industrial combined solar photo-Fenton/aerobic biological system for the decontamination of wastewater polluted with commercial pesticides.
Journal ArticleDOI

Photodegradation of ethyl paraben using simulated solar radiation and Ag3PO4 photocatalyst.

TL;DR: Estrogenicity assays showed that methyl paraben was more estrogenic than EP; however, parabens are slightly estrogenic compared to 17β-estradiol, and liquid chromatography-time of flight mass spectrometry revealed the formation of methylParaben, 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, benzoic Acid and phenol as primary transformation by-products.

Solar photocatalysis for the abatement of emerging micro-contaminants in wastewater: Synthesis, characterization and testing of various TiO2 samples

TL;DR: The photocatalytic degradation of a mixture of three compounds spiked in secondary treated wastewater by means of simulated solar radiation over titania suspensions was investigated in this paper, where Bisphenol-A (BPA) and 17α-ethynylestradiol (EE2) were chosen as representatives of emerging micro-contaminants, while phenol was chosen as a reference contaminant.

TiO2 photocatalysis and related surface phenomena

TL;DR: The field of photocatalysis can be traced back more than 80 years to early observations of the chalking of titania-based paints and to studies of the darkening of metal oxides in contact with organic compounds in sunlight as discussed by the authors.
