TLDR
In this paper, a roughness-viscosity model was proposed to interpret the experimental data and the results indicated significant departure of flow characteristics from the predictions of the conventional theory for microtubes with smaller diameters.

Journal ArticleDOI

A Review of the Complex Flow and Heat Transfer Characteristics in Microchannels

TL;DR: In this article , the authors systematically review the research about microscale flow and heat transfer, focusing on the flow-and heat-transfer mechanisms in microchannels, which is elaborated in the following two perspectives: one is the microscale single-phase flow that only considers the influence of scale effects, the other is the special heat transfer phenomena brought about by the coupling of micro-scale flow with special fluids (fluid with phase change (pseudophase change)).

Experimental study on flow characteristics of liquid in circular microtubes

TL;DR: In this article , the characteristics of frictional resistance for deionized water flow in microtubes were investigated and it was concluded from experimental results that for fully developed water flow, the product of Darcy friction factor ƒ and Reynolds number Re remains approximately 64.

Fabrication, bonding, assembly, and testing of metal-based microchannel devices

TL;DR: In this article , a new technique for fabricating high-aspect-ratio microscale structures (HARMSs) in metals such as Cu at low cost and high throughput is introduced, and detailed results and discussion on flow and heat transfer performance of these MHEs under two different testing configurations, constant heat flux and constant wall temperature.

Thermodynamic analysis of capillary flows in the presence of hydrodynamic slip

TL;DR: In this article, a thermodynamic description of liquid flows in capillaries with hydrodynamic slip at the solid-liquid interface is given, and the main result concerns the existence of a capillary pressure of slip; slip occurrence leads to a pressure decrease in the flow and might cause cavitation.

Boundary layer theory

TL;DR: The flow laws of the actual flows at high Reynolds numbers differ considerably from those of the laminar flows treated in the preceding part, denoted as turbulence as discussed by the authors, and the actual flow is very different from that of the Poiseuille flow.

Experimental Investigation on Liquid Forced-Convection Heat-Transfer Through Microchannels

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the single-phase forced-flow convection of water or methanol flowing through microchannels with rectangular cross-section and found that the fully developed turbulent convection regime was initiated at about Re = 1000-1500.
