TLDR
In this paper, a roughness-viscosity model was proposed to interpret the experimental data and the results indicated significant departure of flow characteristics from the predictions of the conventional theory for microtubes with smaller diameters.

Turbulent and transitional velocity measurements in a rectangular microchannel using microscopic particle image velocimetry

TL;DR: In this paper, microPIV experiments were performed on a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microchannel with a cross-section measuring 320 μm-×-330 μm for Reynolds numbers between 272 and 2853.
Journal ArticleDOI

Heat transfer characteristics of water flow in microtubes

TL;DR: In this article, the authors provided an experimental investigation on forced convective heat transfer performance of water flowing through six micro-tubes with inner diameters ranging from 123 to 962 μm.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fluid flow and heat transfer in microchannels with rectangular cross section

TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured the heat transfer coefficients and friction factors for flow of water in microchannels with a rectangular cross-section, and the results showed that they are close to the theoretical value from a correlation for macroscopic dimension.
Journal ArticleDOI

Slug flow in curved microreactors: Hydrodynamic study

TL;DR: In this article, the authors deal with the numerical simulation of the Taylor flow in curved microchannels, particularly on gas and liquid slugs with varying curvature ratios (i.e., coil to tube diameter = 5, 10, 20 and 30).
Journal ArticleDOI

Fabrication, Assembly, and Testing of Cu- and Al-Based Microchannel Heat Exchangers

TL;DR: In this paper, the results on fabrication, assembly, and heat transfer testing of Cu-and Al-based microchannel heat exchangers are reported, which illustrate the potential of metal-based MHEs in wide-ranging applications.

Boundary layer theory

TL;DR: The flow laws of the actual flows at high Reynolds numbers differ considerably from those of the laminar flows treated in the preceding part, denoted as turbulence as discussed by the authors, and the actual flow is very different from that of the Poiseuille flow.
Journal ArticleDOI

Measurement of friction factors for the flow of gases in very fine channels used for microminiature Joule-Thomson refrigerators

TL;DR: In this article, the friction factors for the flow of gases in the fine channels used for microminiature Joule-Thomson refrigerators have been measured using a photolithographic technique.

Experimental Investigation on Liquid Forced-Convection Heat-Transfer Through Microchannels

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the single-phase forced-flow convection of water or methanol flowing through microchannels with rectangular cross-section and found that the fully developed turbulent convection regime was initiated at about Re = 1000-1500.

Frictional flow characteristics of water flowing through rectangular microchannels

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the flow characteristics of water flowing through rectangular microchannels having hydraulic diameters of 0.133-0.367 mm and H/W ratios between 0.333-1.72i.
