TLDR
In this paper, a roughness-viscosity model was proposed to interpret the experimental data and the results indicated significant departure of flow characteristics from the predictions of the conventional theory for microtubes with smaller diameters.

A fractal permeability model coupling boundary-layer effect for tight oil reservoirs

TL;DR: In this paper, a fractal model coupled with boundary-layer effect for tight oil reservoirs was proposed, and the parameters influencing effective liquid permeability were quantitatively investigated. And the results showed that the effective fluid permeability of tight formations is not only decided by pore structures, but also affected by boundary layer distributions.

Experimental Investigation of the Effect of Flow Arrangements on the Performance of a Micro-Channel Heat Sink

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of different flow arrangements on thermal performance of a copper micro-channel heat sink was investigated with a test piece having inlet and outlet plenum dimensions of 10 mm × 30 mm × 2.5 mm with an array of parallel micro-channels having an individual width of 330 μm and a uniform channel depth of 2 mm.

Characterization of frictional pressure drop of liquid flow through curved rectangular microchannels

TL;DR: In this article, the behavior of water through curved rectangular microchannels with different aspect ratios and curvature radii for Re numbers ranging from 10 to 600 was investigated, and the experimental results indicated that classical Navier-Stokes equations were applicable for the incompressible laminar flow passing through curved micro-channels.
Journal ArticleDOI

Statistical and structural similarities between micro- and macroscale wall turbulence

TL;DR: In this article, microscopic particle-image velocimetry (micro-PIV) measurements are made in the streamwise-wall-normal plane of a 536-μm capillary at Re-=4,500 to study the statistical and structural features of wall turbulence at the microscale.

Extended Graetz problem for combined electroosmotic and pressure-driven flows in narrow confinements with thick electric double layers

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the thermal transfer characteristics of thermally developing, pressure-gradient aided electroosmotic flows through narrow fluidic confinements, with step-change in the wall temperature, by employing a semi-analytical formalism.

Boundary layer theory

TL;DR: The flow laws of the actual flows at high Reynolds numbers differ considerably from those of the laminar flows treated in the preceding part, denoted as turbulence as discussed by the authors, and the actual flow is very different from that of the Poiseuille flow.

Measurement of friction factors for the flow of gases in very fine channels used for microminiature Joule-Thomson refrigerators

TL;DR: In this article, the friction factors for the flow of gases in the fine channels used for microminiature Joule-Thomson refrigerators have been measured using a photolithographic technique.

Experimental Investigation on Liquid Forced-Convection Heat-Transfer Through Microchannels

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the single-phase forced-flow convection of water or methanol flowing through microchannels with rectangular cross-section and found that the fully developed turbulent convection regime was initiated at about Re = 1000-1500.

Frictional flow characteristics of water flowing through rectangular microchannels

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the flow characteristics of water flowing through rectangular microchannels having hydraulic diameters of 0.133-0.367 mm and H/W ratios between 0.333-1.72i.
