TLDR
In this paper, a roughness-viscosity model was proposed to interpret the experimental data and the results indicated significant departure of flow characteristics from the predictions of the conventional theory for microtubes with smaller diameters.

Measurement of Threshold Pressure Gradient of Microchannels by Static Method

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed an experiment setup to measure the threshold pressure gradient (TPG) of liquid flow in low permeability porous media, which is called the micro-size effect in porous media.
Journal ArticleDOI

Design and fabrication of portable continuous flow PCR microfluidic chip for DNA replication.

TL;DR: Investigation of the effect of the cross-section, width-to-depth ratio, and the length ratio for three temperature zones of the micro channel on the thermal and flow distribution of fluid in micro tube by finite element analysis and successfully amplified the DNA of Treponema denticola in the chip within 8 min.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fluid modelling of microfluidic separator channels

TL;DR: In this paper, a CFD model is used to investigate eddy formation induced by angular geometry in a microfluidic ultrasonic separator device, which is inherently angular due to the anisotropic etch processes used.
Journal ArticleDOI

A model of spontaneous flow driven by capillary pressure in nanoporous media

TL;DR: In this article, Shen et al. presented the results of an analytical model for capillary rise in nano-channels by taking into consideration the effect of inherent surface roughness.
Journal ArticleDOI

An alternative description of the interfacial energy of a liquid in contact with a solid

TL;DR: This paper investigates the relationship between the long-range Coulomb effects in the ionic solution and the interfacial energy, and concentrates on experiments in which other surface effects are minimized and in which chemical reactions at the surface are absent or frozen.

Boundary layer theory

TL;DR: The flow laws of the actual flows at high Reynolds numbers differ considerably from those of the laminar flows treated in the preceding part, denoted as turbulence as discussed by the authors, and the actual flow is very different from that of the Poiseuille flow.
Journal ArticleDOI

Measurement of friction factors for the flow of gases in very fine channels used for microminiature Joule-Thomson refrigerators

TL;DR: In this article, the friction factors for the flow of gases in the fine channels used for microminiature Joule-Thomson refrigerators have been measured using a photolithographic technique.

Experimental Investigation on Liquid Forced-Convection Heat-Transfer Through Microchannels

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the single-phase forced-flow convection of water or methanol flowing through microchannels with rectangular cross-section and found that the fully developed turbulent convection regime was initiated at about Re = 1000-1500.
Journal ArticleDOI

Frictional flow characteristics of water flowing through rectangular microchannels

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the flow characteristics of water flowing through rectangular microchannels having hydraulic diameters of 0.133-0.367 mm and H/W ratios between 0.333-1.72i.
