Hydroperoxide metabolism in cyanobacteria.

TLDR
It is concluded from the high activity of ascorbate peroxidase activity and the levels of antioxidants found that this enzyme can effectively remove low concentrations of peroxides.

Ascorbate peroxidase – a hydrogen peroxide-scavenging enzyme in plants

TL;DR: Amino acid sequence and other molecular properties indicate that ascorbate peroxidase resembles cytochrome c peroxIDase from fungi rather than guaiacol per oxidase from plants, and it is proposed that the plant and yeast hydrogen peroxide-scavenging peroxidsases have the same ancestor.

Tansley Review No. 112

TL;DR: This review considers photosynthesis as a whole-cell process, in which O2 and AOS are involved in reactions at both photosystems, enzyme regulation in the chloroplast stroma, photorespiration, and mitochondrial electron transport in the light, and oxidants and antioxidants are discussed as metabolic indicators of redox status, acting as sensors and signal molecules leading to acclimatory responses.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oxidative stress in cyanobacteria.

TL;DR: This review summarizes recent findings and outlines important perspectives in this field of reactive oxygen species, which are byproducts of aerobic metabolism and potent agents that cause oxidative damage in cyanobacteria.

The water–water cycle as alternative photon and electron sinks

TL;DR: The water-water cycle in chloroplasts is the photoreduction of dioxygen to water in photosystem I (PS I) by the electrons generated in photoystem II (PS II) from water.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oxygen relations of nitrogen fixation in cyanobacteria.

TL;DR: Genetic studies indicate that the controls of heterocyst development and nitrogenase synthesis are closely interrelated and that the expression of N2 fixation (nif) genes is regulated by pO2.

Protein Measurement with the Folin Phenol Reagent

TL;DR: Procedures are described for measuring protein in solution or after precipitation with acids or other agents, and for the determination of as little as 0.2 gamma of protein.

Hydrogen Peroxide is Scavenged by Ascorbate-specific Peroxidase in Spinach Chloroplasts

TL;DR: Observations confirm that the electron donor for the scavenging of hydrogen peroxide in chloroplasts is L-ascorbate and that the L-ASCorbate is regenerated from DHA by the system: photosystem I-*ferredoxin-*NADP^>glutathione and a preliminary characterization of the chloroplast peroxidase is given.

Enzymic method for quantitative determination of nanogram amounts of total and oxidized glutathione: Applications to mammalian blood and other tissues

TL;DR: The use of the foregoing analytical method in the determination of total and oxidized glutathione contents of rat blood, kidney, and liver gave values in good agreement with those obtained by previous investigators.

Absorption of light by chlorophyll solutions

TL;DR: This paper deals with the estimation of chlorophyll in plant extracts by application of absorption coefficients of the isolated solid chlorophylla components, and the question of artifacts is automatically clarified.
