TLDR
The roles of numerous inflammatory molecules including but not limited to cytokines, chemokines, inflammasomes, microRNAs and neuropeptides and their expression status in ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease are discussed in relation to their effects on the overall intestinal inflammatory process.

Dampening inflammation by modulating tlr signalling

Kim S. Midwood
- 01 Jan 2011 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore the current knowledge about distinct signalling cascades resulting from self TLR activation and highlight the involvement of endogenous TLR activators in disease and highlight how specifically targeting DAMPs may yield therapies that do not globally suppress the immune system.
Journal ArticleDOI

TSLP Promotes Interleukin-3-independent Basophil Haematopoiesis and Type 2 Inflammation

TL;DR: This study determined how TSLP contributes to allergic disease pathogenesis by performing studies in mice and human studies with the use of basophils from patients with eosinophilic esophagitis or from healthy controls.
Journal ArticleDOI

JAK inhibitors for the treatment of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases

TL;DR: This extensive review of JAK inhibitors presents evidence- or hypothesis-based perspectives for these drugs in various rheumatologic conditions, such as r heumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, giant cell arteritis, and autoinflammatory diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Physical activity and autoimmune diseases: Get moving and manage the disease

TL;DR: Clinical evidence regarding the safety, barriers to engagement, and impact of physical activity on autoimmune diseases is reviewed, showing physical activity has been shown to be safe in most of autoimmune diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hidradenitis Suppurativa: A Systematic Review Integrating Inflammatory Pathways Into a Cohesive Pathogenic Model.

TL;DR: The evidence presented in this review supports HS as an auto-inflammatory skin disorder associated with alterations in the innate immune system and further research is warranted to ultimately improve the management and treatment of patients with HS and related syndromic conditions.

The Commensal Microbiota and Enteropathogens in the Pathogenesis of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

TL;DR: To identify new therapeutic approaches for inflammatory bowel disease, it is important to identify host susceptibility factors involved in the control of microbial infection, characterize potential pathogens, and eliminate them or block the expression of their virulence factors.
Journal ArticleDOI

IL-6 Is Required for the Development of Th1 Cell-Mediated Murine Colitis

TL;DR: A crucial role for IL-6 in the pathogenesis of murine colitis is shown and a therapeutic potential of anti-IL-6R mAb for treatment of human Crohn’s disease is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI

Immunoregulatory role of interleukin 10 in patients with inflammatory bowel disease

TL;DR: IL-10 down-regulates the enhanced secretion as well as messenger RNA levels of proinflammatory cytokines by IBD mononuclear phagocytes in vitro and in vivo and can restore diminished in vitro IL-1 receptor antagonist/IL-1 beta ratios in IBD to normal levels.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inflammatory bowel disease: the role of environmental factors.

TL;DR: Smoking and the enteric bacterial flora are the ones for which the most solid evidence is currently available, and evidence for a major role of the diet in inducing or modifying IBD is limited, while that for nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is more convincing than for oral contraceptives.
