TLDR
A structural homology exists between the two viruses, despite minimal primary sequence conservation, and a synthetic peptide containing the HAV-specific amino acid sequence of one of these sites induced anti-HAV-neutralizing antibodies.Abstract:
Comparative surface feature analyses of the VP1 sequences of hepatitis A virus (HAV) and poliovirus type 1 allowed an alignment of the two sequences and an identification of probable HAV neutralization antigenic sites. A synthetic peptide containing the HAV-specific amino acid sequence of one of these sites induced anti-HAV-neutralizing antibodies. It is concluded that a structural homology exists between the two viruses, despite minimal primary sequence conservation.read more

Bioinformatics analysis of ROP8 protein to improve vaccine design against Toxoplasma gondii.
TL;DR: A theoretical basis for the development of an appropriate vaccine against toxoplasmosis is laid, and several bioinformatics approaches were used to analyze the different aspects of ROP8 protein, including the physico-chemical properties, transmembrane domain, subcellular localization, secondary and tertiary structure, B and T-cell potential epitopes, and other important characteristics of this protein.

Esterase EstE from Xanthomonas vesicatoria (Xv_EstE) is an outer membrane protein capable of hydrolyzing long-chain polar esters
TL;DR: A Amino acid sequence alignments and computer-assisted structure prediction indicated the presence of a carboxyl-terminal β-barrel membrane domain which might facilitate binding of Xv_EstE to the outer membrane, and Xv-EstE showed preferential hydrolytic activity on short chain and para-substituted nitrophenylesters as substrates.

Nucleated Teleost Erythrocytes Play an Nk-Lysin- and Autophagy-Dependent Role in Antiviral Immunity

TL;DR: It is observed that the blockage of autophagy increased the replication of viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus in nucleated teleost erythrocytes, which suggests that this mechanism may also be a key process in the defense against viruses in these cells.

Conformational B-cell epitopes prediction from sequences using cost-sensitive ensemble classifiers and spatial clustering.
TL;DR: A novel cost-sensitive ensemble algorithm is proposed for predicting the antigenic determinant residues and then a spatial clustering algorithm is adopted to identify the potential epitopes, called CBEP (conformational B-cell epitopes prediction), which achieves good prediction performance.

Deep learning methods improve linear B-cell epitope prediction
Tao Liu,Kaiwen Shi,Wuju Li +2 more
TL;DR: The feedforward deep neural network is applied to the large amount of linear B-cell epitope data with experimental evidence in the IEDB database, and ensemble prediction models with better performance than the current major models available are constructed.

Analysis of the accuracy and implications of simple methods for predicting the secondary structure of globular proteins.

Prediction of protein antigenic determinants from amino acid sequences.

TL;DR: The method was developed using 12 proteins for which extensive immunochemical analysis has been carried out and subsequently was used to predict antigenic determinants for the following proteins, finding that the prediction success rate depended on averaging group length.

Solid Phase Peptide Synthesis
TL;DR: This work has shown that effective methods of peptide synthesis are crucial to progress in this area, because only by synthesis can adequate amounts of important peptides be made available for chemical, biologi...
