Involvement of resident macrophages and mast cells in the writhing nociceptive response induced by zymosan and acetic acid in mice

TLDR
The results suggest that the nociceptive activity of zymosan and acetic acid in the writhing model is due to the release of TNF-alpha, interleukin 1beta and interleucin 8 by resident peritoneal macrophages and mast cells.

Role of the immune system in chronic pain

TL;DR: This work has shown that immune cell products might have a crucial role not just in inflammatory pain, but also in neuropathic pain caused by damage to peripheral nerves or to the CNS.

A cascade of cytokines mediates mechanical inflammatory hypernociception in mice.

TL;DR: Results extend to mice the concept that the release of primary mediators responsible for hypernociception is preceded by a cascade of cytokines.

Hypernociceptive role of cytokines and chemokines: targets for analgesic drug development?

TL;DR: The evidence suggesting pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines are potential targets to develop novel drugs and therapies for the treatment of pain is emphasized, emphasizing the importance of the direct and indirect actions of cytokine actions in inflammatory and neuropathic hypernociception.

Acute p38-Mediated Modulation of Tetrodotoxin-Resistant Sodium Channels in Mouse Sensory Neurons by Tumor Necrosis Factor-α

TL;DR: The results suggest that TNFα may induce acute peripheral mechanical sensitization by acting directly on TNFR1 in primary afferent neurons, resulting in p38-dependent modulation of TTX-resistant Na+ channels.
Journal ArticleDOI

FODMAPs alter symptoms and the metabolome of patients with IBS: a randomised controlled trial

TL;DR: IBS symptoms are linked to FODMAP content and associated with alterations in the metabolome, and in subsets of patients, FOD MAPs modulate histamine levels and the microbiota, both of which could alter symptoms.

Tumor necrosis factor (cachectin) is an endogenous pyrogen and induces production of interleukin 1

TL;DR: These studies show that TNF (cachectin) is another endogenous pyrogen which, like IL-1 and IFN-alpha, directly stimulate hypothalamic PGE2 synthesis and is an endogenous inducer ofIL-1.

Mast cell modulation of neutrophil influx and bacterial clearance at sites of infection through TNF-alpha

TL;DR: It is reported here that mast cells, which are selectively located at portals of bacterial entry, are important to host defence against bacterial infections.
