Levulinic acid production from wheat straw.

TLDR
The coefficient determination (R(2)) was good for the second-order model and the optimal conditions for levulinic acid production from wheat straw were 209.3 degrees C, 3.5% acid concentration, 15.6 liquid:solid ratio and 37.6 min of reaction time resulted 19.86% yield.

Single-component and competitive adsorption of levulinic/formic acids on basic polymeric adsorbents

TL;DR: In this paper, the adsorption equilibria of single-component and binary mixtures of levulinic/formic acids in the aqueous solution on three different types of basic polymeric adsorbents were experimentally measured at 30°C.

Simulation of Levulinic Acid Adsorption in Packed Beds using Parallel Pore/Surface Diffusion Model

TL;DR: In this article, a general rate model which considers pore diffusion and parallel pore/surface diffusion was solved numerically by orthogonal collocation on finite elements to describe the experimental breakthrough data.

Production of levulinic acid from corn cob residue in a fed-batch acid hydrolysis process

TL;DR: In this paper, a new fed-batch process for hydrolyzing corncob residues with sulfuric acid being utilized as the catalysis to produce levulinic acid at high concentrations is proposed.

Comparison of solvents for the recovery of low-molecular carboxylic acids and furfural from aqueous solutions

TL;DR: In this paper, a liquid-liquid extraction of formic acid, acetic acid and furfural from an aqueous synthetic acid hydrolysis process stream is studied and two solvents that can efficiently recover the compounds, 2-methyltetrahydrofuran (2-MTHF) and tri-n-octylamine in toluene (Alamine 336-toluene) are then studied further.

Production of platform molecules from sweet sorghum

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of pretreatment by centrifugal separation and reaction conditions (irradiation time, acid concentration and reaction temperature) on the formation of levulinic acid were studied.

A response surface approach for the comparison of lipase production by Candida cylindracea using two different carbon sources

TL;DR: Medium containing olive oil appears to a better medium for fermentative production of C. cylindracea lipase than yeast extract, malt extract, peptone and tween 80, based on experimental conditions.

Mechanism of levulinic acid formation

TL;DR: Based on the intermediates revealed by 13C-NMR spectroscopy, the mechanism of levulinic acid formation in acid catalysed hydrolysis of 2-hydroxymethylfurane (1) and 5-hexyl carbaldehyde (2-carbaldehyde) is proposed in this paper.

Experimental studies for levulinic acid production from whole kernel grain sorghum

TL;DR: This study proposed a method of making levulinic acid using abundant and low cost whole kernel sorghum grain as the raw material and a linear regression model was capable of predicting the levulini acid yield with respect to effects of reaction temperature, mineral acid concentration and flour loading.
