Management of gastric cancer in Asia: resource-stratified guidelines

TLDR
This work aims to provide a stepwise strategy for management of gastric cancer applicable to different levels of health-care resources in Asian countries, using the categories of basic, limited, enhanced, and maximum level.
Abstract
Summary Gastric cancer is the fourth most common cancer globally, and is the second most common cause of death from cancer worldwide. About three-quarters of newly diagnosed cases in 2008 were from Asian countries. With a high mortality-to-incidence ratio, management of gastric cancer is challenging. We discuss evidence for optimum management of gastric cancer in aspects of screening and early detection, diagnosis, and staging; endoscopic and surgical intervention; and the concepts of perioperative, postoperative, and palliative chemotherapy and use of molecularly targeted therapy. Recommendations are formulated on the basis of the framework provided by the Breast Health Global Initiative, using the categories of basic, limited, enhanced, and maximum level. We aim to provide a stepwise strategy for management of gastric cancer applicable to different levels of health-care resources in Asian countries.

MicroRNA-140-5p inhibits cell proliferation, migration and promotes cell apoptosis in gastric cancer through the negative regulation of THY1-mediated Notch signaling

TL;DR: The present study suggests that miR-140-5p directly targets and negatively regulates THY1 expression and inhibits activation of the Notch signaling pathway, whereby the up-regulation of miR -140- 5p inhibits development of GC, highlighting the promise of miP-140 -5p as a potential target for GC treatment.

Family history of cancer in first-degree relatives and risk of gastric cancer and its precursors in a Western population.

TL;DR: Gastric cancer risk was associated with gastric cancer history in first-degree relatives overall and with low pepsinogen, a marker of gastric atrophy, a risk factor for developing this malignancy.

Roles of competing endogenous RNAs in gastric cancer

TL;DR: Recent findings on the roles of ceRNAs in gastric carcinogenesis are discussed, and the ceRNA regulatory mechanism may participate in this pathogenic process.

Amido-Bridged Nucleic Acid-Modified Antisense Oligonucleotides Targeting SYT13 to Treat Peritoneal Metastasis of Gastric Cancer.

TL;DR: Intra-abdominal administration of AmNA-modified anti-SYT13 ASOs represents a promising strategy for treating peritoneal metastasis of gastric cancer and it was found that SYT13 interfered with focal adhesion kinase (FAK)-mediated intracellular signals.

Overexpression of TRIB3 promotes angiogenesis in human gastric cancer

TL;DR: It is found that overexpression of TRIB3 is associated with tumor angiogenesis and a poor prognosis in patients with GC, and the findings indicate that TRIB 3 is a promising target for anti‑angiogenic therapy in GC.

Capecitabine and oxaliplatin for advanced esophagogastric cancer.

TL;DR: Capecitabine and oxaliplatin are as effective as fluorouracil and cisplatin, respectively, in patients with previously untreated esophagogastric cancer, in a two-by-two design.
