Abstract
A balanced mechanics-materials approach and coverage of the latest developments in biomaterials and electronic materials, the new edition of this popular text is the most thorough and modern book available for upper-level undergraduate courses on the mechanical behavior of materials To ensure that the student gains a thorough understanding the authors present the fundamental mechanisms that operate at micro- and nano-meter level across a wide-range of materials, in a way that is mathematically simple and requires no extensive knowledge of materials This integrated approach provides a conceptual presentation that shows how the microstructure of a material controls its mechanical behavior, and this is reinforced through extensive use of micrographs and illustrations New worked examples and exercises help the student test their understanding Further resources for this title, including lecture slides of select illustrations and solutions for exercises, are available online at wwwcambridgeorg/97800521866758

Mechanical behavior of nanocrystalline aluminum-zirconium

TL;DR: In this article, microhardness, nanoindentation and tensile properties of nanocrystalline aluminum-zirconium have been investigated via micro-hardness and nano-indentations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Finite element modelling of deformation in particulate reinforced metal matrix composites with random local microstructure variation

TL;DR: In this paper, a two-scale finite element approach was used to model deformation in particulate reinforced metal matrix composites (PR MMCs) with locally varying reinforcement volume fraction, and the responses of axisymmetric unit cell models were used to define the constitutive response of mesoscale regions possessing varying volume fractions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Demonstration of a shear‐based solid‐state phase transformation in a small molecular organic system: Chlorpropamide

TL;DR: The mechanically induced solid-state transformation between the A and C enantiotropes of the anti-diabetic drug chlorpropamide was investigated and it is suggested that the transformation of either form is allowed when resolved shear stresses initiate deformation, causing lattice distortion, which allows the simultaneous reconformation of molecules.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of microstructure evolution on the elevated temperature mechanical properties in Mg-Sn-Ca system

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of microstructural evolution on the creep properties in Mg-Sn-Ca system has been investigated, and the creep test results indicate apparent stress exponent value (n = 7) indicates climb controlled creep mechanism by core diffusion above 150°C.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of stacking fault energy on the thermal stability and mechanical properties of nanostructured Cu–Al alloys during thermal annealing

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of stacking fault energy (SFE) on the thermal stability and mechanical properties of nanostructured (NS) Cu-Al alloys during thermal annealing were investigated.
