Mechanical Behavior of Materials

TLDR
A balanced mechanics-materials approach and coverage of the latest developments in biomaterials and electronic materials, the new edition of this popular text is the most thorough and modern book available for upper-level undergraduate courses on the mechanical behavior of materials as discussed by the authors.
Abstract
A balanced mechanics-materials approach and coverage of the latest developments in biomaterials and electronic materials, the new edition of this popular text is the most thorough and modern book available for upper-level undergraduate courses on the mechanical behavior of materials To ensure that the student gains a thorough understanding the authors present the fundamental mechanisms that operate at micro- and nano-meter level across a wide-range of materials, in a way that is mathematically simple and requires no extensive knowledge of materials This integrated approach provides a conceptual presentation that shows how the microstructure of a material controls its mechanical behavior, and this is reinforced through extensive use of micrographs and illustrations New worked examples and exercises help the student test their understanding Further resources for this title, including lecture slides of select illustrations and solutions for exercises, are available online at wwwcambridgeorg/97800521866758

Biological materials: Functional adaptations and bioinspired designs

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors conduct an analysis connecting the structure (nano, micro, meso, and macro) to the mechanical properties important for a specific function, and address how biological systems respond and adapt to external mechanical stimuli.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanical properties of high-entropy alloys with emphasis on face-centered cubic alloys

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors review the principal mechanical properties of multi-principal element alloys with emphasis on the face-centered cubic systems, such as the CrCoNi-based alloys, and suggest their favorable mechanical properties and ease of processing by conventional means suggest extensive utilization in many future structural applications.

Adhesive wear behavior of AlxCoCrCuFeNi high-entropy alloys as a function of aluminum content

TL;DR: In this article, the AlxCoCrCuFeNi alloys with different aluminum contents prepared by arc melting were investigated on their adhesive wear behaviors and the wear mechanism changes from delamination wear to oxidative wear.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of silica fume on mechanical properties of high-strength concrete

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of binder systems containing different levels of silica fume on fresh and mechanical properties of concrete were investigated, and the results indicated that as the proportion of fume increased, the workability of concrete decreased but its short-term mechanical properties such as 28-day compressive strength and secant modulus improved.
