Abstract
A balanced mechanics-materials approach and coverage of the latest developments in biomaterials and electronic materials, the new edition of this popular text is the most thorough and modern book available for upper-level undergraduate courses on the mechanical behavior of materials To ensure that the student gains a thorough understanding the authors present the fundamental mechanisms that operate at micro- and nano-meter level across a wide-range of materials, in a way that is mathematically simple and requires no extensive knowledge of materials This integrated approach provides a conceptual presentation that shows how the microstructure of a material controls its mechanical behavior, and this is reinforced through extensive use of micrographs and illustrations New worked examples and exercises help the student test their understanding Further resources for this title, including lecture slides of select illustrations and solutions for exercises, are available online at wwwcambridgeorg/97800521866758

Experimental study of continuous-bending-under-tension of AA6022-T4

TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental setup for continuous bending-under-tension (CBT) of thin strips and sheets, aimed at the investigation of the observed elongation-to-fracture (ETF) enhancements under such conditions, is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Novel analysis for nanoindentation size effect using strain gradient plasticity

TL;DR: In this article, a model describing nanoindentation as plastic deformation resulting from a strain gradient was investigated using a simplified indentation model, the effective strain and effective strain gradient for indentation depth were derived.
Journal ArticleDOI

Elasto-plastic behaviour of thin metal films

TL;DR: In this paper, the large extent of the microdeformation stage was determined for tensile deformation of free-standing thin films, as well as for films on substrates deformed by cyclic heating.

Characterization of material property variation across an inertia friction welded CrMoV steel component using the inverse analysis of nanoindentation data

TL;DR: In this article, a new approach for determining the mechanical properties from experimental nanoindentation curves has been applied in order to generate the elastic-plastic stress-strain curves of three phases located across the joint of a like-to-like inertia friction weld of a CrMoV steel, i.e. the parent phase of tempered martensite and two child phases formed during the IFW process.
