TLDR
The second edition of this book is unique in that it focuses on methods for making formal statistical inference from all the models in an a priori set (Multi-Model Inference).Abstract:
Introduction * Information and Likelihood Theory: A Basis for Model Selection and Inference * Basic Use of the Information-Theoretic Approach * Formal Inference From More Than One Model: Multi-Model Inference (MMI) * Monte Carlo Insights and Extended Examples * Statistical Theory and Numerical Results * Summaryread more

Using expert elicitation to estimate the impacts of plastic pollution on marine wildlife
TL;DR: A threat assessment focused on the most common types of litter that are found along the world's coastlines, based on data gathered during three decades of international coastal clean-up efforts, pointing towards a number of opportunities both for policy-based and consumer-driven changes in plastics use that could have demonstrable affects for a range of ecologically important taxa.
Journal ArticleDOI
Local temperatures inferred from plant communities suggest strong spatial buffering of climate warming across Northern Europe
Jonathan Lenoir,Bente J. Graae,Per Arild Aarrestad,Inger Greve Alsos,W. Scott Armbruster,Gunnar Austrheim,Claes Bergendorff,H. John B. Birks,H. John B. Birks,H. John B. Birks,Kari Anne Bråthen,Jörg Brunet,Hans Henrik Bruun,Carl Johan Dahlberg,Guillaume Decocq,Martin Diekmann,Mats Dynesius,Rasmus Ejrnæs,John-Arvid Grytnes,Kristoffer Hylander,Kari Klanderud,Kari Klanderud,Miska Luoto,Ann Milbau,Mari Moora,Bettina Nygaard,Arvid Odland,Virve Ravolainen,Stefanie Reinhardt,Sylvi M. Sandvik,Fride Høistad Schei,Fride Høistad Schei,James D. M. Speed,Liv Unn Tveraabak,Vigdis Vandvik,Liv Guri Velle,Risto Virtanen,Martin Zobel,Jens-Christian Svenning +38 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that thermal variability within 1-km(2) units strongly increases local spatial buffering of future climate warming across Northern Europe, even in the flattest terrains.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatiotemporal behavioral plasticity of wild boar (Sus scrofa) under contrasting conditions of human pressure: primeval forest and metropolitan area
Tomasz Podgórski,Grzegorz Baś,Bogumiła Jędrzejewska,Leif Sönnichsen,Leif Sönnichsen,Stanisław Śnieżko,Włodzimierz Jędrzejewski,Henryk Okarma +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that wild boar can adjust their spatiotemporal behavior to local conditions and this may be one factor explaining recent rapid demographic expansion in Europe.
Book ChapterDOI
The Global Distribution of Yellow Fever and Dengue
TL;DR: Records of the occurrence of both yellow fever and Dengue during the 20th century have been collected together and are used to define their climatic limits using remotely sensed satellite data within a discriminant analytical model framework.
Journal ArticleDOI
Optimal swim speeds for traversing velocity barriers: an analysis of volitional high-speed swimming behavior of migratory fishes.
TL;DR: A new model of a distance-maximizing strategy for fishes traversing velocity barriers is proposed, derived from the relationships between swim speed and fatigue time in both prolonged and sprint modes, and predicts that fish will maximize traversed distance by swimming at a constant groundspeed against a range of flow velocities.
