Journal ArticleDOI
The contribution of trees outside forests to national tree biomass and carbon stocks--a comparative study across three continents.
TL;DR: It is found that more than 10 % of the national above-ground tree biomass was actually accumulated outside forests for six countries, a consideration this study finds crucial if accurate measurements of national tree biomass and carbon pools are required.
Journal ArticleDOI
Available and missing data to model impact of climate change on European forests
Paloma Ruiz-Benito,Giorgio Vacchiano,Emily R. Lines,Christopher P. O. Reyer,Sophia Ratcliffe,Xavier Morin,Florian Hartig,Annikki Mäkelä,Rasoul Yousefpour,Jimena E. Chaves,Alicia Palacios-Orueta,Marta Benito-Garzón,César Morales-Molino,J. Julio Camarero,Alistair S. Jump,Jens Kattge,Aleksi Lehtonen,Andreas Ibrom,Harry J. F. Owen,Miguel A. Zavala +19 more
TL;DR: Kattge et al. as discussed by the authors proposed a method to solve the problem of human-computer interaction in the context of artificial neural networks, using Kattge-Lehtonen algorithm.
Journal ArticleDOI
The role of European National Forest Inventories for international forestry reporting
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a comprehensive review of the national and international forest reporting processes and of the role of the National Forest Inventories (NFIs) and the long-associated challenges resulting from a lack of comparability in definitions used.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatial Distribution of Carbon Stored in Forests of the Democratic Republic of Congo
Liang Xu,Sassan Saatchi,Sassan Saatchi,Aurélie Shapiro,Victoria Meyer,Antonio Ferraz,Yan Yang,Jean-François Bastin,Jean-François Bastin,Norman Banks,Pascal Boeckx,Hans Verbeeck,Simon L. Lewis,Simon L. Lewis,Elvis Tshibasu Muanza,Eddy Bongwele,Francois Kayembe,Daudet Mbenza,Laurent Kalau,Franck Mukendi,Francis Ilunga,Daniel Ebuta +21 more
TL;DR: The probability based LiDAR samples capture variations of structure and carbon across edaphic and climate conditions, and provide an alternative approach to national ground inventory for efficient and precise assessment of forest carbon resources for emission reduction (ER) programs.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effects of field plot size on model-assisted estimation of aboveground biomass change using multitemporal interferometric SAR and airborne laser scanning data
TL;DR: In this paper, a case study in a small boreal forest area in southeastern Norway (852.6 × 6.6×6.6 ǫ ) showed that the relative efficiency of a pure field-based change estimate by the variance of a corresponding estimate using a model-assisted approach was improved by increasing the plot size.
