Vulnerability of forest ecosystems to fire in the French Alps
TL;DR: This article used surface fuel measurements, forest inventory and fire weather data to simulate fire behaviour and ultimately post-fire tree mortality across 4438 forest plots in the French Alps, showing that cold season fires have a limited impact except on low-elevation forests of the Southern Alps (mainly Oak, Scots pine).

TL;DR: A national-level climate impact analysis of stationary bioenergy systems in Norway based on wood-burning stoves and wood biomass-based district heating finds that cooling aerosols and albedo offset 60–70% of total warming, leaving a net warming of 340 or 69 kg CO2e MWh−1 for stoves or district heating, respectively.

Use of ETM+ images to extend stem volume estimates obtained from LiDAR data
TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented a methodology which first transforms mean stand heights obtained from LiDAR over small strips into relevant stem volume estimates and then extended over an entire forest by applying two estimation methods (k-NN and locally calibrated regression) to Landsat ETM+ images.
