Sofosbuvir plus ribavirin for 12 weeks may be effective in previously untreated patients with HCV genotype 1, 2, or 3 infection, and the rate of sustained virologic response 24 weeks after therapy is reported.Abstract:
BACKGROUND The standard treatment for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is interferon, which is administered subcutaneously and can have troublesome side effects. We evaluated so fos bu vir, an oral nucleotide inhibitor of HCV polymerase, in interferon-sparing and interferon-free regimens for the treatment of HCV infection. METHODSread more

Should NS5A inhibitors serve as the scaffold for all-oral anti-HCV combination therapies?
Sujit V. Janardhan,Nancy Reau +1 more
TL;DR: The rational design of an optimal anti-HCV DAA cocktail is discussed, with a focus on the role of NS5A in the HCV life cycle, the attributes of theNS5A class of inhibitors, and the potential for NS5a inhibitors to act as a scaffold for DAA-only treatment regimens.

Directly acting antivirals for hepatitis C virus arrive in HIV/hepatitis C virus co-infected patients: from 'mind the gap' to 'where's the gap?'.
TL;DR: Recent evidence on the treatment of HCV in co-infected patients including the efficacy of new regimens and information on drug-drug interactions between DAAs and antiretroviral therapy is reviewed.

Sustained virological response rates to antiviral therapy in genotype 1 and 3 chronic hepatitis C patients: a study from north India.
TL;DR: In north India, HCV genotype 3 has a SVR rate of 73%, which is comparable to genotype 1 with SVR rates of 64% when treated with PEG-IFN and ribavirin therapy, and in multivariate analysis the only baseline factor found independently correlating with Svr was low HCV RNA level.

Management of hepatitis C infection among patients with renal failure
TL;DR: Recommendations are to screen for HCV infection among all patients with renal failure especially prior to initiation of hemodialysis and renal transplant evaluation and to determine the safety and efficacy of newer anti-HCV drugs not only in patients with end-stage renal failure prior to kidney transplantation but also among kidney transplant recipients.

TL;DR: It is reported that a genetic polymorphism near the IL28B gene, encoding interferon-λ-3 (IFN-α-2a) is associated with an approximately twofold change in response to treatment, both among patients of European ancestry and African-Americans.

TL;DR: Naturally occurring dominant STAT‐C resistance mutations are common in treatment‐naïve patients infected with HCV genotype 1, and their influence on treatment outcome should be characterized to evaluate possible benefits of drug resistance testing for individual tailoring of drug combinations when treatment options are limited due to previous nonresponse to peginterferon and ribavirin.
