Object modelling by registration of multiple range images
Yang Chen,Gerard Medioni +1 more
TLDR
A new approach is proposed which works on range data directly and registers successive views with enough overlapping area to get an accurate transformation between views and is performed by minimizing a functional which does not require point-to-point matches.About:

KinectFusion: Real-time dense surface mapping and tracking
Richard Newcombe,Shahram Izadi,Otmar Hilliges,David Molyneaux,David Kim,Andrew J. Davison,Pushmeet Kohi,Jamie Shotton,Steve Hodges,Andrew Fitzgibbon +9 more
TL;DR: A system for accurate real-time mapping of complex and arbitrary indoor scenes in variable lighting conditions, using only a moving low-cost depth camera and commodity graphics hardware, which fuse all of the depth data streamed from a Kinect sensor into a single global implicit surface model of the observed scene in real- time.

A pyramid approach to subpixel registration based on intensity
TL;DR: An automatic subpixel registration algorithm that minimizes the mean square intensity difference between a reference and a test data set, which can be either images (two-dimensional) or volumes (three-dimensional).

Topology matching for fully automatic similarity estimation of 3D shapes
TL;DR: A novel technique is proposed, called Topology Matching, in which similarity between polyhedral models is quickly, accurately, and automatically calculated by comparing Multiresolutional Reeb Graphs (MRGs), which operates well as a search key for 3D shape data sets.

KinectFusion: real-time 3D reconstruction and interaction using a moving depth camera
Shahram Izadi,David Kim,Otmar Hilliges,David Molyneaux,Richard Newcombe,Pushmeet Kohli,Jamie Shotton,Steve Hodges,Dustin Freeman,Andrew J. Davison,Andrew Fitzgibbon +10 more
TL;DR: Novel extensions to the core GPU pipeline demonstrate object segmentation and user interaction directly in front of the sensor, without degrading camera tracking or reconstruction, to enable real-time multi-touch interactions anywhere.

Iterative point matching for registration of free-form curves and surfaces
TL;DR: A heuristic method has been developed for registering two sets of 3-D curves obtained by using an edge-based stereo system, or two dense3-D maps obtained by use a correlation-based stereoscopic system, and it is efficient and robust, and yields an accurate motion estimate.

3DPO: a three-dimensional part orientation system
TL;DR: This paper presents a system that recognizes objects in a jumble, verifies them, and then determines some essential configurational information, such as which ones are on top, by analyzing the patterns of range data predicted from all the hypotheses.

Recognizing 3-D objects using surface descriptions
TL;DR: The authors provide a complete method for describing and recognizing 3-D objects, using surface information, by taking as input dense range date and automatically producing a symbolic description of the objects in the scene in terms of their visible surface patches.

Representation and Shape Matching of 3-D Objects
TL;DR: A three-dimensional scene analysis system for the shape matching of real world 3-D objects is presented and the results are shown on several unknown views of a complicated automobile casting.
