TLDR
A better understanding of the imaging characteristics of iCCAs is gained and advanced cytologic techniques to detect pCCAs are developed, along with advances in classification, diagnosis, and treatment.

Cullin3 deficiency shapes tumor microenvironment and promotes cholangiocarcinoma in liver-specific Smad4/Pten mutant mice

TL;DR: In this paper, a genome-wide CRISPR-Cas9 screening was conducted in liver-specific Smad4/Pten knockout mice and 15 putative tumor suppressor genes, including Cullin3 (Cul3), whose deficiency increases protein levels of Nrf2 and Cyclin D1 leading to the initiation of cholangiocytes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Development of extrahepatic bile ducts and mechanisms of tumorigenesis: Lessons from mouse models

TL;DR: In this article , a review of the pathogenesis and mechanisms of eCCA that can be revealed by genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs) is presented. But the authors do not discuss several clinical questions, such as whether BilIN and IPNB really become malignant, whether the peribiliary gland is the origin of ECCAs, and others.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dynamic enhancement patterns of small-diameter mass-forming intrahepatic cholangiocarcinomas on contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging: Challenges faced by the radiologist.

TL;DR: The small-diameter mass-forming ICC nodules mainly show peripheral continuous enhancement on contrast-enhanced MRI; however, those with diameters <2 cm commonly show progressive enhancement.

Biliary epithelial cells, the immune system and PSC pathogenesis

Lena Berglin
TL;DR: Cellular and humoral components of the immune system, in PSC and the PSC-associated malignancy CCA and immunohistochemistry assessment of intratumoral immune cells in cholangiocarcinoma are investigated.

Fibroblasts in cancer

TL;DR: Fibroblasts are a key determinant in the malignant progression of cancer and represent an important target for cancer therapies.

Cisplatin plus Gemcitabine versus Gemcitabine for Biliary Tract Cancer

TL;DR: Cisplatin plus gemcitabine is an appropriate option for the treatment of patients with advanced biliary cancer and was associated with a significant survival advantage without the addition of substantial toxicity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of tumour micro-environment heterogeneity on therapeutic response

TL;DR: The dynamic tumour topography varies drastically even throughout the same lesion, so evaluating tumours as complete organs, and not simply as masses of transformed epithelial cells, becomes paramount.
Journal ArticleDOI

The epidemiology of cholangiocarcinoma.

TL;DR: Some data point to a potential role for chronic liver disease, hepatitis C, and probably hepatitis B infections in the development of ICC, as well as the recent increasing trends of ICC in the United States.
