TL;DR: It is demonstrated that, when nonsetting CH pastes are applied to the root canal, diffusion of Ca2+ without an increase in pH to the surrounding media occurs, implying that these type of material are more suitable than CH points for treatment of external root resorption.

Evaluation of smear layer removal after use of a canal brush: an SEM study
TL;DR: Irrigating with brushing tended to produce cleaner canal walls, but irrigating brushing was not significantly better than irrigation alone in removing the smear layer on the canal walls.
