TLDR
The Xanthophyll cycle and thermal energy dissipation were investigated in this paper. But the results of these experiments were limited to the case of light-capturing systems, where active oxygen was not formed in the Photochemical Apparatus.Abstract:

Chlorophyll fluorescence—a practical guide
Kate Maxwell,Giles N. Johnson +1 more
TL;DR: An introduction for the novice into the methodology and applications of chlorophyll fluorescence is provided and a selection of examples are used to illustrate the types of information that fluorescence can provide.
Journal ArticleDOI
Photoinhibition of photosystem II : inactivation, protein damage and turnover
TL;DR: Various protective mechanisms and an efficient repair cycle of Photosystem II allow plants to survive light stress and probably allows for coordinated biodegradation and biosynthesis of the D1 protein.
Journal ArticleDOI
The role of active oxygen in the response of plants to water deficit and desiccation.
TL;DR: During normally-encountered degrees of water deficit the capacity of the antioxidant systems and their ability to respond to increased active oxygen generation may be sufficient to prevent overt expression of damage.
Journal ArticleDOI
PHOTOPROTECTION REVISITED: Genetic and Molecular Approaches
TL;DR: Several photoprotective mechanisms operating within chloroplasts of plants and green algae are summarized, especially with respect to thermal dissipation of excess absorbed light energy, alternative electron transport pathways, chloroplast antioxidant systems, and repair of photosystem II.

The Ecology of Phytoplankton
TL;DR: Reynolds as discussed by the authors provides basic information on composition, morphology and physiology of the main phyletic groups represented in marine and freshwater systems and reviews recent advances in community ecology, developing an appreciation of assembly processes, co-existence and competition, disturbance and diversity.

Protective systems against active oxygen species in spinach: response to cold acclimation in excess light.
TL;DR: Cold acclimation led to several metabolic and biochemical changes that apparently include improved protection of the photosynthetic apparatus against active oxygen species and possible relevance for plant resistance to photoinhibition at chilling temperatures.

Carotenoid composition in sun and shade leaves of plants with different life forms
TL;DR: Sun leaves of nine species of annual crop plants and a perennial mesophyte had high rates of photosynthesis whereas the perennial shrubs and vines had relatively low photosynthesis rates, and zeaxanthin content at peak irradiance and the xanthophyll cycle pool size were compared for sun leaves from the different groups of plants.

Inhibition of Zeaxanthin Formation and of Rapid Changes in Radiationless Energy Dissipation by Dithiothreitol in Spinach Leaves and Chloroplasts
Barbara Demmig-Adams,William W. Adams,Ulrich Heber,Spidola Neimanis,Klaus Winter,Almuth Krüger,Franz-Christian Czygan,Wolfgang Bilger,Olle Björkman +8 more
TL;DR: The inhibition of zeaxanthin-associated fluorescence quenching by dithiothreitol provides further evidence that there exists a close relationship between zexanthin and potentially photoprotective dissipation of excess excitation energy in the antenna chlorophyll.

Operation of the xanthophyll cycle in higher plants in response to diurnal changes in incident sunlight
TL;DR: Changes in the carotenoid composition of leaves in response to diurnal changes in sunlight were determined in the crop species Helianthus annuus, Cucurbita pepo, and pumpkin, and in the perennial shrub Euonymus kiautschovicus Loesner.

Photochemical efficiency of photosystem II, photon yield of O2 evolution, photosynthetic capacity, and carotenoid composition during the midday depression of net CO2 uptake in Arbutus unedo growing in Portugal
Barbara Demmig-Adams,William W. Adams,Klaus Winter,A. Meyer,Ulrich Schreiber,João Pereira,Almuth Krüger,Franz-Christian Czygan,Otto L. Lange +8 more
TL;DR: During the “midday depression” of net CO2 exchange in the mediterranean sclerophyllous shrub Arbutus unedo, examined in the field in Portugal during August of 1987, several parameters indicative of photosynthetic competence were strongly and reversibly affected.
